(HELP) Sony Movie Studio 13 won't install! ERROR Message

Remy wrote on 3/22/2018, 2:40 PM

I had bought the digital version of Sony Movie Studio 13 through amazon back in 2014. Back then I installed the 32 bit version without issues and the program ran smoothly for nearly 4 years. It wasn't until a few days ago when I tried rendering a project that the Movie Studio started giving me error messages. The projects I would render would only render at 50% then it would completely crash. I decided to uninstall Movie Studio completely and I reinstalled it (yes I still have the email from amazon of my purchase), I put in my serial number and the installation process was going fine until this error messaged popped up...

I've been going crazy frustrated trying to find solutions with no luck. Can anyone help me out please!??

Other Info:

  • I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1720.
  • Although the laptop is a decade old, It has plenty of free space. The 32 bit version of Movie Studio worked just fine on it up until a week a go.

If you find the last Sony/SCS MSP 13 32-bit build # 954, you should probably try it. With luck you might get it here:

https://web.archive.org/web/20151101042717/http://dspcdn.sonycreativesoftware.com/current/moviestudiope13.0.954_32bit.exe

Be patient if/when you try.

You'd probably get only the last Magix rebranded MSP 13 64-bit build here:

Managed to download the first link you provided but it's asking for the serial number. I put in my serial number and after that it states it's going to restart to complete an upgrade process but then nothing happens..

I restarted my laptop several times. Tried reinstalling Sony Movie Studio and I still get the same "Application will Restart" message or the "Error Corrupt" message pops... please help?

It appears from the message that MS is wanting to restart not restart your entire laptop.

Try shutting down MS then restarting it.

If that doesn't work I vaguely recall this problem cropping up a few years ago so do a search on this forum.

UPDATE: I finally got Movie Studio up and running again. Here's what I did for anyone else who may run into this issue.

I uninstalled Movie Studio completely for the last time. I then installed the version linked by fellow user vkmast

https://web.archive.org/web/20151101042717/http://dspcdn.sonycreativesoftware.com/current/moviestudiope13.0.954_32bit.exe

After downloading Movie Studio it kept asking to enter my serial number and after doing so the program wouldn't open. A pop up message kept telling me Movie Studio would restart automatically and it would not. I kept trying to open Movie Studio but I was stuck on a endless loop of inputting my serial number and it telling me the program will restart...

After endless searching I found a solution and I did the following!

1.) Enter "WINDOWS KEY + R", then in the textbox type "REGEDIT" and press enter. Allow your computer to make changes if prompted to.

2.) Navigate in the list on the left to the folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow643Node > Sony Creative Software > Movie Studio Platinum > 13.0 > License

3.) Then right click on the "license" folder and delete it!

4.) Open up Movie Studio and enter your serial number and you should be good to go!

This is in line with what was first suggested here. Only the Wow***Node is a bit different(?). As EricLNZ recollected, it has come up rather often earlier in the transition period.
