set wrote on 9/14/2013, 3:02 AM
Hi, first time posting here (I usually posting and reply discussions in Vegas Pro sections).

I was helping as an admin in one group outside here SCS, and I notice several users are using Movie Studio versions..., May I know the history of this version from the beginning until latest one?

just like noted in this thread for Vegas Pro versions: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/Forums/ShowMessage.asp?Forum=4&MessageID=852246

The release notes are referred to in that thread as marketing material.
I would (and do) still use them to get an overview.
Don't know of any condensed list that would be any more reliable than the notes.
A not quite complete overview of them here or here

Thanks for the link - That should good enough as the base of listing.

Let's see:
Vegas Movie Studio 12
Vegas Movie Studio 11
Vegas Movie Studio 10
Vegas Movie Studio 9
Vegas Movie Studio 8
Vegas Movie Studio 7
Vegas Movie Studio 6
Vegas Movie Studio 5
Vegas Movie Studio 4

and the rest of earlier one, is it below? (Dates are from First available in Amazon.com):

Screenblast Movie Studio 3 (July 7, 2003)
Screenblast Movie Studio 2 (is there any?)
Screenblast Movie Studio 1 (Oct. 24, 2002)
VideoFactory 2 (was SonicFoundry) (August 8, 2001)
VideoFactory (was SonicFoundry) (Dec 19, 2000)

Wondering about the 'Platinum' versions... when does it starts?
The Platinum is not the same as 'non-platinum', isn't it?

See All Vegas Updates for further info on Platinums as well. The same link in the thread you referred to was Updates:Vegas (given by rs170a).
The site's comparison tables give you a clue on Platinum add-ons.

To be exact, SCS dropped the "Vegas" from the Movie Studio version 12 titles and from the basic Movie Studio 11 (not Platinums) latest update version.
You could google some sellers like Amazon to see many of the different packages released.

There are references to Screenblast Movie Studio 2 in old threads like this one.

There's no Movie Studio 12 (basic version) that I know of, only MS Platinum 12 (plus MS Platinum 12 Suite and MS Platinum Visual Effects Suite 2, which includes Plat. 12 and HitFilm 2 Express).
The early Movie Studio 11 builds were released as Vegas Movie Studio HD 11.
In addition, there were some previous Production Suites (with some add-ons), not to mention the slip-sleeve OEM editions, but probably no need to go into them.

@setiawan3d, if you care to browse SCS' newsletters, you may be able to get the release (or at least announcement) dates of the various Movie Studio versions.

Sonic Foundry's Vegas 1.0 was indeed a (DAW (audio only) and was free to 'some' Sound Forge users. As I recall, Vegas 2 LE had the option of at least one track (maybe two but no more than that) and almost no FX, aside from x-fade and in/out. The audio worked fine by itself, but the video dragged things down considerably on my Win98 PC. FWIW, Vegas Audio 2.0 and Vegas 2 LE are still listed in the SCS/Magix, My Software.
