How do I edit existing Subclips?

noob here.... I created multiple subclips from a video file and dropped them into my timeline. I want to trim a few of these subclips but when I choose to open one of these in the trimmer and make my changes, how do I get it to save overtop of itself and update in the timeline? Even when I resave the subclip using the same filename, it seems to just be a second version with the same name and still have to manually delete the other and drop the new one in the timeline. Just seems like there would be an easier way of doing this

Um, not use subclips or trimmer?

Sorry that's not really helping you but I've gotten by editing multi-cam projects for years without using the trimmer. Have you looked through Help to see if you're missing something in your work flow?

Edit as MSmart suggests.
Or, as he also suggests, look through Online Help (F1).
"Using the trimmer/Adding media to the timeline"
Enable T/L overwrite, Add to T/L from cursor (shortcut A), delete what's not overwritten.

I just gave up with it and just did edits directly in the timeline, wasnt too bad. Just with all my years of design with Adobe InDesign, Im use to the source files being linked to the document. So any changes I make to the source files update in the main document. That seemed like what this was also but I guess not.

And how often does online help actually help?? ;-) Believe me, I tried using it anyway but rarely could I find much help with it. Ive always been better using google or youtube (which I did plenty of) but couldnt find anything about this anyway

When you edit on the timeline you're not changing the source files at all. You're merely telling Vegas where to start playing within the clip and where to stop. For that matter, you're not changing the source when you create subclips in the trimmer either. A subclip is not a physical file at all. It's merely a bit of data specifying the in & out point of the original clip. All you're doing in either case is telling Vegas which part of the source file to use. This is the essence of "non-destructive" editing.

From my personal experience, I'd say, frequently.
Try hovering over e.g. the What's This button: "Click this button and then click a part of the interface to view help about the item you clicked."
Or the Enable Timeline Overwrite button: "Select to replace the contents of the timeline when creating events from the Trimmer."
