How do I open a *.veg project file?

I think I'm caught in a product discontinuity.

I edited movies with (I think) Vegas Movie Studio. I saved the project files as *.veg files.

I bought and installed Magix Movie Studio 18 Suite and tried to open the *.veg files -- NO SUCCESS. I presumed the software was all in the "vegas" family. Seems I was wrong.

Do I have to buy Vegas Edit to load *.veg project files?

What do I do?

All Sony Vegas Pro software ( before version 15) and Vegas Pro are able to open .veg files with the same or earlier version number

So I need to get Vegas Pro 19, right?

Best is to try a version before buying.

VEGAS Movie Studio versions create and open *.vf (project) files. VEGAS Edit (19) includes VEGAS Pro 19 which should be able to open VEGAS MSP *.vf files. You can test with a free trial (and should anyway for general compatibility as @j-v suggests).

MAGIX Movie Studio 18 versions are a totally different product. The support for it is available from the MAGIX user forum https://www.magix.info/us/video-forum/movie-edit-pro/

Sony/SCS produced Vegas versions earlier than #14.
