How do I reset the Vegas Suite 18 free trial?

Brandon-Dean wrote on 5/10/2021, 11:16 PM

About a year ago I bought the vegas suite because I've heard good things and was tired of adobe. I bought, installed it, and got the god awful unfixable gpu error on startup so I returned the software. I recently got a new gpu, and was wondering if Vegas would work now, so I installed the trial, but it has expired since I installed Vegas that time forever ago. I was wondering if there's any way to reset the trial period so I can test if vegas will run on my computer. Thank you for taking your time to read.

Setup:

Windows 10 pro, version 10.0.19041

GTX 1070

i5 6600k

16GB DDR4 Ram

As far as I'm aware you cannot reset the trial period but Vegas 19 is on the horizons so wait for that which you can then trial.

Realistically, the only way to "reset" the trial period would be to do a full reinstall of Windows on the system - usually not a desirable option.

...... Furthermore, it is very questionable whether this is considered "legal" by Magix / Vegas.......
In any case, if it were intended to be able to extend a trial version, there would almost certainly be an easily accessible option.

It may be considered as a way to violate usage rules. You can have a legit trial on another computer.

That may not even work since most licensing schemes make use of a hardware ID based on system configuration.

That's a shame. I guess I'll just not get it then. I payed for the whole thing a while back and the when checking online this gpu crashing issue has been a thing since the program's inception.

GPU issues are usually solvable so it's a pity you didn't come here for help when you had problems. This forum has many helpful experienced members. Be wary of what you find on other online sources.

I had gone through every solution available on every single forum I could find in then some, including physically removing my gpu from my system. I doubt there's anything I could've done.

Asked the other way round:
How often should this be allowed? 2x, 3x, 5x? Where is the limit?
Who would buy the software if they can hop from one test interval to another (even with the tricks mentioned)?

I think it's fair if you can test a software for a month.

Unfortunately it still leaves the problem as encountered by Brandon and others that if something doesn't work, or there's an annoying bug, they are unable to trial with a later released build to see if their problem has been fixed.

Yes, that's right - it's just a business consideration for Magix to allow a new test with a new build or not - and how they can safeguard against abuse.

It's too bad there is no way to petition the company to request a second trial (or if there is I haven't heard of it).

On the Adobe side they seem to reset trials when there are major program changes as they're not locked into a yearly update cycle (so actually less frequent than Vegas). You can also just download it, pay for a month and if it doesn't work right get refunded within that period. I did this recently.
