How To Output 7680x3840 (8k 360 Video) VP17

Before I purchased Vegas Pro 17, i specifically checked for 8k & 360 support (both listed as included).

However, when going to render the video, the 8k output is LOCKED to 8192x4320 and will not let me change it.

The proper aspect ratio and frame size for 8k 360 video is 7680x3840 via Insta360 and YouTube specifications.

Anyone know how to solve this, please let me know.

You can easily do this using the RenderPlus tool in HappyOtterScripts. https://tools4vegas.com/ Since I don't have any 8K video, I created an 8K photo and did a render using the x264 codec. Unlike Vegas, HOS will render at whatever project settings you choose and does not require the creation of a specific render template. Here's a screen grab of the result showing the original 8K material and the rendered file along with its MediaInfo results.

Note, I paid way too much for the software already, I will absolutely not spend another penny to do something the software claims it can already do.

If anyone can tell me how to fix this problem within the original VP17 software, it would be very much appreciated.

At the moment, it's still in beta testing, but only till mid May. After that, you would be able to download a 30 day trial. After that, a paid license would be required.

I use voukoder. You need to download 2 items, voukoder-5 and vegas-connector-0.7.0, install both and voukoder should show in render options. I tried encoding at that resolution with voukoder, X265 (HEVC) and NVENC (HEVC) both work, with NVNEC being 5x faster. It will automatically encode at the resolution of your vegas project you just choose codec

Thanks Lenard! Got it installed, and seems to be a pretty good temporary solution. The NVENC is crashing on me, but the CPU encoders are working fine.

I sent an official support ticket to Magix, what they advertised and what was delivered don't match. Hopefully they have a solution that doesn't require these workarounds.

it is still not working properly in VP17

their tech support told me they were working on a fix, then the update came out, and it wasn't fixed...

That's fair enough, but voukoder is superior especially for 8K HEVC because of the constant quality setting, where only the bitrate you need is used for every frame, and also voukoder is 20% faster at encoding. (tested with Nvenc, not X265)

Lenard, maybe you can help me out. I'm having issues with Voukoder outputting HUGE files, i think i rendered a 1min file that was 200MB or something crazy like that. Do you have any preferred settings, or advanced settings that you tweak? When I get home tonight, i can post some screenshots of my problems.

200 MB for 1 minute of video equals a data rate of about 27 Mbit/s. This is a common value for HD and it is a very low rate for 8k video.

For HEVC I used a CRF/CQP of 24. This gives a high quality encode. On the 8k video sample I used which had movement but not too much bitrate was 27mbit. The default value for HEVC CRF is 28, which is equivilent to the H264 CRF 23. You could try 28 for lower bitrate. It depends on what you're encoding for. If it's encoded to be uploaded to a server that will re-encode I'd definitely be using 24

then it was 200MB for 10seconds. or whatever. i'm not home, i don't have the numbers in front of me. i will clarify when i get home from work. i know for a fact the file size was way above what it should have been. it seems to have been encoding in lossless, which is useless for upload to youtube.

OK, so i reconfigured Voukoder for HEVC at 24.

Screenshots attached. And output file statistics attached.

Everything look good? Did I miss any settings?

P.S. Thanks again for your help! I'd be totally screwed without Voukoder filling-in for VP17's missing features.

And tonight I made an 8min file at 5760x2880 that is 2.7GB

The bitrate seemed to be around 50... camera's native is way higher...

Is that good quality video? Especially for YouTube 360?

How would I bump up the bitrate in Voukoder? Change CQP from 24 to... 12...?

Really wish Vegas would just add 5.7k and 8k 360 output profiles... 😴
