How to Smart Render in MS 13?

Hello, I recently purchased MS 13 Platinum, and I really like the product. I have some standard def MPEG-2 video clips that I would like to put on a DVD. I just want to add chapter markers, subtitles, and a menu for the DVD.

I was hoping MS would be able to smart render, since these are DVD-compliant MPEG-2 clips. But MS insists on rendering, even without adding markers and subtitles. How do I smart render?

Another option would be to add the clips directly to DVD Architect, but I don't see a way to set the duration of subtitles in DVD Architect. When I add text to a video compilation, it stays there for the entire clip. Is there any way to set the duration for text? Thanks.

Your video and audio streams must be compliant with DVD Architect, not the old dvd standard which, among other things, can contain mpeg I layer II audio..
Only the streams you get from the proper Vegas templates will smart render in Architect.

See the MSP 13online Help (F1) "Smart rendering" in the chapter "Rendering projects".
As mv says, give DVD A compliant streams, so it does not recompress.

I think Santiam is asking about smart rendering in Movie Studio, not DVDA. He has asked the same question on another forum.

He may be able to smart-render in Movie Studio; but that's probably a non-solution because those files will probably not smart-prepare in DVD Architect, whether they are DVD compliant or not. Several things would have to be miraculously perfect for that to happen, so a re-render at one stage or the other is almost certainly necessary.

DVD Architect compliance is a narrower subset of the overall dvd standard.
The two are not the same.

MediaInfo displays the relevant data for your files.
The OP should check that he did not "clear the Enable no-recompress long-GOP rendering check box on the General tab of the Preferences dialog to turn the (smart rendering) feature off. (From the MS 13 Help chapter mentioned earlier)
He posted a sample file link in his thread on another forum (as TOG62 points out) and that file smart renders in MS 13 after some template customizing.

I really appreciate everyone's help (here and on the other forum). I was able to get it working thanks to your advice.

But when I smart render, it reduces the avg bit rate (the file size drops by about 9%). I don't care so much about the file size as I do the bit rate. I'm setting the max, avg, and min bit rates to reflect those of the original file. If I raise the bit rates, it tries to re-encode. Not sure what's going on...
