I solved crash problems - version 6

DiDequ wrote on 10/13/2013, 1:55 PM
Hello.
I encountered crash problems with Dvd Architect pro 6.0:
softaware worked fine until I added many vidéos.
I did some tuning (windows seven) without success.
My processor : I7 with 12 threads.

How did I solve the stability problems :
using msconfig !!!
I've limited the numbers of threads from 12 to 8.
No more problems : I can do and generate very complex 3D bluerays with anaglyphe option !

Hope this will help someone !

Hello Di:

I'm familiar with msconfig, but not specifically with limited threads. Can you give a bit more instruction on what you did? Maybe this is obvious to others, but I'm not sure I know where to go with this one.

I've used DVD-A 6.0 crash-free on DVDs but my projects are probably not complex enough to push the limits. For day in and day out I still use DVD-A 5.2 just to be on the safe side. Maybe that will change with your workaround.

Hi Di:
Exciting to read "No more problems : I can do and generate very complex 3D bluerays with anaglyphe option !", Can you give details: what 3D files do you use? how do you burn them in BluRay discs? I remain unable to burn 3D BluRay discs using 3D movie files created with a Sony 3D camcorder....

By "threads" I think he means "cores" (I've never heard of processors having threads, but I have heard of processors having cores, which are often used to run multiples threads) and instead of "msconig" I think he means "Task Manager"

If you go into Task Manager and right-click on a process (in this case, the one for DVD Architect Pro 6, while it is running) there is a context item to Set Affinity. This will let you select (or deselect) which "processors" can be used to run the highlighted task. Those familiar with cores know that Windows treats them as a "logical" processor (as opposed to "physical") and I think in this case, this person deselected from 12 cores down to just 8 cores.

Unfortunately, decreasing the number of cores available to the process made no difference for me.

Usually a workaround like this would suggest that the crash is caused by a race condition, but even in virtual machine (where I'm able to see the crashes) lowering the number of processor cores down to just one still makes no difference.

Sadly, I don't think this is a workaround that will work for others. :(

Sorry for my late reply.
No, I really mean threads, no cores. my processor as 6 cores X 2 = 12 threads (you call them logical processors)
How to reduce the number of threads ? MSCONFIG !!! not msconig.
My english is not as good as I would like !

see:
http://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/11036-cpu-multicores-comment-desactiver-un-core

It's in french, but english pages should be available with google.

Each time I try to switch back to 12 threads, I cannot produce complex bluerays.
I use blender a lot - it can compute at 100% on all threads for days - no crash with it !

I shall write to sony, because I've really tried many things - it's the only one working for me, on a fresh Seven installation -with Ms license as well as vegas pro licence .

My camera is a Panasonic HDC Z10000, I'm encoding with Vegas pro with a sony avc/mvc - 20mb/s profile for the video.
And I always show 2 main menus: one for 3D vidéos
A second one with the same structure, but with anaglyph videos.

Did you try with only 2 "logical cores" And with only 1 ?
I do call them threads and not logical cores because HT means Hyper Threading.
Quite sure your crashes will stop !

I understand this is only for DvdArchitect pro - I do need all the power for other applications, and it's quite easy to switch back from saying 4 to 12 threads !

I only use Windows for Vegas (video) software.
My arch linux is always working with full power.
Unfortunately, Vegas pro does not work on linux machines !

I've red your post to Sony saying you cannot burn bluerays.
I do, with 3D.
I prepare an iso image with DvdA Pro

Dvd Architect pro is the only software running, otherwise, I can also get crashes.

And I'have stopped all unnecessary services in windows ("manage -> services")
If you search the web, you will find english pages explaining what you can switch off.
I have a simple Windows 64 bits system with Sp1 - no other updates.
24 gb ram, but DvdA pro is a 32 bits software... This amount of ram is sometimes almost used by blender under Linux !!!

I burn the iso with "brasero" under Linux"

Because I had a lot of crashes few weeks ago, I think it's both memory and cores related

Ca veut dire "How it Works"? en anglais? Je pense que votre francais et plus bien que mon francais! Je peut essayer de lire ce la et la comprendre.

Dis donc! Voila le magasin on-line que s'apelle "Plongee" et qu'on se trouve les video de mienne:

Kimberly,
is it you or did my 'Select Language' choice automagically change once again? :)

I do not need anymore to reduce the number of threads - logical cores.
My files were corrupted.

I have done a new 3D blueray with DvdA - all 12 Logical cores - no crash problem.
As I did keep the files from the previous project, I restarted it with DvdA from scratch : no more problem.

What did happen ?
I was not using the memory patch for DvdA (Win 64 bits only), got several crashes that probably damaged the project file.

Conclusion :
1 I have been happy to burn a dvd by reducing the number of logical cores.
2 I know that if I get a software crash , it's safer to open a realease that did not suffer from the crash ... few rework but safer.
In french : chat échaudé craint l'eau froide !
(I name my files project V1 ... project V2, etc. )

Kind regards.

What memory patch?
