Importing a DVD and .mov files

Tim Stannard wrote on 3/21/2020, 12:01 PM

Two issues I'm sure I've resolved before but search high and low, I can't find an answer.

1. Importing a DVD into VP17 (421) (Import DVD camcoder disc) I get no audio. There's an audio track there, but nothing registers on the meters and I can't hear anything. Same result if I just drag the VOB to the timeline. I've used this many times before (though i cannot guarantee I've done it in this version)

2. I cannot get VP17 (421) to accept a MOV file - simply won't accept it onto the timeline. This is a QuickTime TC format according to MediaInfo and I'm certain theres a fix for this (but, as IO say, a search has turned up nothing)

I have VP15 and VP16 still installed on the same PC and these same files work absoluely fine in both of those.

I have uninstalled VP17, rebooted and re-installed to no avail.

Any suggestions?

QT must be enabled in the internal menu on VP-17. Don't know about importing DVD media to VP-17, I would assume the same as previous VP versions

@Tim Stannard

I just tested the "Gary James method" again and was able to import a home-made DVD successfully into VP 17 b 421.

And see Preferences:

Firstly, thanks to you all for responding so quickly. Thaks especially to vkmast for pointing me in the right directon for the QT fix (So obvioious when you point out where it is!)

j-v, I wasn't doubting that it can work and as I said it worked on all my previous attempts - this paricular file in both VP15 and VP16.

So, I tried the "Gary James method" and I'm glad to say it works. I couldn't get the ideo to play in the timeline until I'd done a render, but that's not really a provlem.

The strange thing about this is the method seems to be required when the video exteds over several VOBs. This is only a short film and there's only the VIDEO_01_1.VOB and VIDEO_TS.VB on the disc.

Ah well. It's a work around (but why do we need this when it's worked in every version of Vegas I've used since version 6!)

Thanks again.

@Tim Stannard Section 10 here may (or may not) explain the need to render.

And Gary James called the method he found an "undocumented feature"...

I recall dragging the .info file (or something similar) into VP which copied all the A/V over to VP. Have not done it in a long while though and of course the video is still 480i.

This is quite possible as before I'd reinstalled VP17, although I wasn't getting any audio, the video was playing fine (and I'd certainly created many MPEG2s).
