Importing pre-rendered .m2ts Movies into VMSv10

VMS v10.Build 179 from Suite
This has been working well for some time!
Now I need to use video-effect on Text and can't do this on the Text-tracks on Timeline . . (only the Video tracks), so I am attempting to do this with a Rendered Movie, so the "text" will be treated as a HDD movie - I hoped.
The Drives have been recently Defragged.

However, even before any "Effects" the Movie freezes up and VMS says it has stopped working and refuses to play the video (the preview screen is frozen about 10sec into the Movie, as the titles die away). However, the music continues and sounds OK, without stutters . . . so can the video-content be "Too much work?"

I'm importing media (=the rendered Movie) from the normal internal HDD(NOT C-drive, another SATA internal), just a few folders away from where plain movie clips are stored as "Masters". This should mean there are minimal delays for the transfer of data. Being "Rendered" it should be far easier for VMS to play, anyway.
It's been Rendered (in this very-same Program), using the high-quality Sony option at 1920x1098x50i, which matches most instances of the camcorder Media.

In "Import Media", I set the Media Type to m2ts (it's on the list), and it appears to Import correctly

I've not needed to work this way before, so it's new to me . . . .

This has frozen in a similar way four times within a few minutes.
What am I doing Wrong?

>>>Now I need to use video-effect on Text and can't do this on the Text-tracks on Timeline . . (only the Video tracks)<<<
What's the difference in your VMSv10 between the Text tracks and the Video tracks (excluding the name which you can change to whatever you want)?

I thought only Video Tracks would accept those Video Media Effects, but It seems I am wrong . . . following your response I checked and I can Select any block of Text on the Timeline - and then select "Video Event Effects"
- This does give me the effect I wanted (Jitters, as it happens) - so thank you for making me look again.

I suppose this means the [.m2ts Import issue] is irrelevant, although for Future use I'd like some suggestions as to what might be the cause.....since I might want to Import some existing material that had been Rendered.

However, I'm very happy to report that (rather strangely!) something I thought was impossible (because I could find no click-link within the Text, which would select the List of Visual effects ) seems there is another way . . . . .Thanks.

The "click-links" are there in the Text events as well...look again :)
You may need to make use of the horizontal scroll bar.

vkmast, thanks for the swift response, but if I'm in Media Generation/Text - Top right by the "?" there is a "Replace Plug-in" - but this provides a minimal list, quite unlike that which Videos get.
If I go to the Timeline, select the Text, rt click THEN I can select the List via "Video Event Effects" - this is the alternative way which I thought you were alluding to . . .

If I vertically-expand the Timeline Tracks, then the "Video Event Effects" ICON does appear, then I can click-through to the Video Event Effects . . . but it's really Clunky to do this as any change in Vertical Magnification is difficult to return "As Was"

Just use the method that suits you best personally. The options are there.

OK thanks, that seems good to me.

However, I still have this issue with Importing (dot)m2ts rendered stuff.
-why does SVMS post that "Stopped Working" message?

SYSTEM (Edit, 27July2013)
2.4GHz processor 2-core, Win7 (32) 2x HDD 500Mb + 1.5Tb 4G RAM + Separate Graphics card 500Mb
I have managed to render quite complex films. SVMS grinds through the files . . I don't recall it ever stopping . . . yet this is a Rendered file, which should be reasonably easier to process. The Preview setting is Auto. The is no other media imported . . . . but I'll try fixed Preview settings as well as a differently Rendered film.

Could not repro your *.m2ts issue with a (small) VMSPS10 test project.
You might find some causes in Steve G's posts early on in this thread
Movie Studio has stopped working
I did have some low memory issues with VMSP 10 at the time I was using it.
Btw, we don't see your system specs.

Hi vkmast, I've added PC spec above....
Today (Saturday), I tried different Rendered Movies and some cause the Program to stop working, while others don't. All seems to allow moving the Cursor to either end of the movie (on the timeline). However, one that was playing OK, stopped when I was about to enter a title (Generated Media),
I was selecting the track, Shift+Mouse and as I pressed "S" (=Split), the program stopped.

Unfortunately the fault report cannot be copied/pasted (although I can highlight it), it seems Win7 doesn't allow this.
- but it contains the usual area of faults KernalBase - I understand from a previous DVD Architect build-fault (now resolved) this rarely give enough info.

Another way to make it stop seems to be using the Preview settings. Normally in Auto it has Stopped moving it to draft...but it's not repeatable, so it may be a minor-effect caused by any change.

Once I've identified a rogue Rendered Movie it remains rogue . . . It doesn't appear to be intermittent, -OR- dependent on some specific Actions...... so I'm suspicious this is an action that is quite rare, so the fault hasn't become serious enough to demand Action.

As a result of yr earlier response I did discover the way to introduce the Film-effect onto Text, so the need to "Import" that rendered movie is gone . . . but I still wonder if I'm doing anything wrong, when using this Import facility?

I notice that Importing Media files results in VMS showing a "% of import" . . . although it's quite a small message. Some Imports appear to be Instantaneous (-even though Films of similar length.) . . . and I wonder if some are treated differently - could this be associated with the problem?

I've suggested it to SVMS, that providing some Test-Clips/Rendered Stuff would be useful for Folks to follow Tutorials - and - conduct Tests, at lest then we know what data is being handled . . . I can provide such HD (and SD?) clips so there is a common standard, although any voices would need to suit the native language, this could be ignored (while still providing lip-sync), and many sounds would be City/Countryside, which we are all reasonably familiar. I suggest up to TEN short clips would suffice and could be of great value to those new to Editing, so they can compare their effort (with Show Me How) and the "Correct" version, using some of the Royalty-free Music supplied. Indeed the items in ShowMeHow that have associated "Test-Clips" might be highlighted for Newbees to attempt first. . . .

Thanks

harry,
thanks for adding some of your system specs into a previous post. I trust you update your graphics card drivers regularly. Btw, did you know that we could see the specs any time by clicking your user name, if you choose to include the info in your profile. You'll find the instructions on the Vegas Pro Forum in Sticky # 4.

As suggested in the thread I linked, some of us think one might have some trouble editing your type of footage with that kind of system and in VMSP 10. I have an i3 w/ 4gb ram and just get by if I don't try to get too creative with my MSP 12 ;).
If a more powerful computer and upgrading to 64-bit (OS and MSP 12) are not an option for you, I guess you need to find help from suggestions in articles like this one in the SCS KB.

I still cannot repro the issues you're having importing and editing. I don't see what you could do wrong with the "import facility" either.

Re the fault report, there's this article in the KB, though SCS only promises their so-called "tech support" free via email for two latest versions.
I doubt that the test clips you suggest would make much difference as there are VMS tutorials all over the place as it is, but that's just me.
