Installation of VP 17 - tips & tricks

Martin L wrote on 8/20/2019, 3:54 AM

Hi!

I just purchased Vegas Pro 17 Edit and am about to install it right now.

I read about some folks having issues with it after installation but that there are some things to do to avoid corrupted plugins etc.

Would anyone of you guys who already went through the process like to give som tips and tricks here? What have you seen?

Perhaps that can save me and many others reading it some unnecessary frustration.

Cheers!

Ok, so I ran into my first problem. I downloaded and opened the VP17 manual. Now my pdf-reader can't download the font of it.

Font: VCEWFM+Whitney-Light-Identity-H

Only some things are displayed. Most is just blanc.

Any solution?

vkmast wrote on 8/20/2019, 4:11 AM

Please see the manual font error discussed here.

Martin L wrote on 8/20/2019, 4:16 AM

Thanks vkmast. I don't have Win10 and not Edge. (still on win7). But I tried opening it in Google Chrome and that worked as well. I also emailed it to my iPhone and there it works too. So that's a work around.

@Martin L

If you give the specs of your hardware and f.i. driverversions of used components it is easier to give some clues what is the best to do.

Second issue: after installing VP17 an error message came up saying my OS does not support VP17. I need to upgrade to win 10. I must have missed that. I was sure it said somewhere that Win7 is also ok. Now I can't find it. My mistake.

The error message said that the program will still work but certain features will not. So I guess I have to face the facts, it's time to get another machine.

Help Grazie! @grazie How has you monsta turned out? Does it run VP17 alright? What specs and tips can you give?

j-v wrote on 8/20/2019, 5:06 AM

I think you only have to change to W10.
And for the best results for AVC and HEVC use for sources and renders an adviced Nvidia, but the developpers are working to make those benefits also for other GPU's.

If Microsoft is not supporting W7 & W8.1 anymore (other than for security), it would be optimistic to expect 3rd party software developers like MAGIX to endorse W7/8.1 when new coding in those programs may not - and will never be - supported in W7/8.1.

Yep, I know. I have been so happy with w7 that I haven't wanted to upgrade. I got w10 on my laptop and I don't really like it. But, as you say, it is only to be expected that sooner or later w7 will be outdated. Guess it's now. 😐

I have to spend my dosh now...

@Martin L - I have, and so far I haven’t regretted it. There’s the extra bonus that my 3rd party plugs have all updated and coming in swinging with Windoze10.

Yes, I'll order a new machine as soon as possible. Still not sure though about your final monsta setup. I would love to just do the same thing as I'm not into PC technology, termonolgy etc. Just want a real good machine and get going with storytelling. Feel free to tell me what to do. :)

@Martin L, I wouldn't use Win 10 to save my life. Win 7 is doing the job fine. The ONLY thing that actually doesn't run on Win 7 (and pretty sure there's a workaround, but haven't found it yet) is the Vegas Post "Image" plug-in, (the Effects add on works just fine in Win 7) so if you're not doing Vegas Pro Post, I wouldn't even worry about it.

Win 10 is a sick, sick OS. I would rather move to Mac or Linux than deal with that 10 headed hydra.

Yes,I don't like it either. That's why I waited so long. Now, what's changed is

1. Microsoft discontinues its support and updates on Win 7 by January 2020 and I would like my new PC OS to be relevant for another 8 years or so.

2. VP17 doesn't support Win 7 and Magix will not provice customer support for that.

3. Many other Vegas users use Win 10 with Vegas successfully.

So even though I am very reluctant I suppose this is the right way to go forward now. At least for me.

@zdogg … Your views on W10 are obviously unequivocal, but what has led you to these conclusions? Perhaps you tried the free upgrade to W10 in 2015 but didn't like it (as many didn't at the time) and rolled back to W7, but Windows 10 has since gone through many, many feature upgrades and refinements.

In my book, always go with the new Windows, Win 10. Do or die the choice is yours. As you can see, many programs and new future programs will only be compatible with new Windows. Make no sense to stay with the outdated one with no supports from MS.

Intel i9 Core Ultra 285K Overclocked all P Cores @5.6, all E-Cores @5ghz

MSI MEG Z890 ACE Gaming Wifi 7 10G Super Lan, thunderbolt 4

Crucial T705 nvme .M2 2TB Gen 5  OS. 4TB  gen 4 storage

RTX 5080 16GB  Overclocked 3.1ghz, Memory Bandwidth increased from 960 GB/s to 1152 GB/s

I haven't had issues, so far, with "non support." It is more often "support" that is insiduous, especially their own proprietary sorts of "we control this computer" stuff and of course their privacy breaching spyware, malware, bloatware, "buy-our-stuff-ware," too cute by half ware, their cryptic way of keeping one from tweaking things, at least without going through headaches and layers, it started in Win 7 but has only gotten progressively worse.

I have looked at videos on how to defeat some of these built in "gotchas" in Win 10, and clunky phone-like interface. But they always are finding ways to "back door" it back in.

Martin L wrote on 8/28/2019, 2:53 AM

So I and my PC guy have come up with a suggestion.

Kingston A2000 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD (system drive)

Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2666Mhz CL16 Vengeance LPX (RAM)

Samsung 860 QVO 2TB (storage/where all video footage and projects are stored until project is finished and delivered)

MSI Z390-A PRO (Motherboard)

Powercolor Radeon VII 16GB (GPU)

Intel Core i9 9900K 3.6 GHz 16MB (CPU)

What do you think guys?

Martin L wrote on 8/28/2019, 2:53 AM

And of course Win 10, box, 850W power etc
