Installing new version of Movie Studio 17

I have been using Sony Movie Studio and want to purchase and install Movie Studio 17. My question is do I have to uninstall the old version before installing a new version of Movie Studio?

No, you don't have to install your older version. I'd strongly suggest though that you consider upgrading to the Platinum version instead of the basic one.
