Invalid data was encountered when processing an MPEG file.

Zip-Zipper wrote on 8/7/2018, 5:42 AM

I keep getting this when I try to prepare or burn a project. " Warning: An error occurred while writing a file. Invalid data was encountered when processing an MPEG file."

I found this same problem posted years ago on the forum but no answer was given. I am using the Trial Version (Build 84? on Windows 10). DVD Architect is the answer to my more complex needs but if I can't get it to work I obviously won't buy it. I would appreciate some help on this issue.

Best regards

Could you try this?

How was the MPEG file created? Which software did you use to encode?

I checked it out and I'll see what I can do to encode it another way.

I created the MPEG in Final Cut Pro's compressor. I've tested shorter bits and it works fine. It's a very long title, maybe I'll break it down into smaller bits instead of one giant three hour title.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll post the results.

Three hours? Are you making a DVD or Blu-ray disk? Putting three hours onto a DVD is pushing it somewhat, unless it's dual layer.

It is a dual layer DVD project. Is length a factor? I'm going ahead and testing a huge .MOV file instead of the MPEG because I had good luck with a smaller test file. I'll see if it compresses successfully in the morning.

I had success with a smaller MPEG file so I thought I'd break the project into chapters instead of one big file but I got the same error.

I hope this works, there isn't much out there for DVD authoring with all these professional options.

Did you set your DVDA properties for a Dual Sided disk? (8.5 I believe)

Only to the extent that if it was a single layer disc getting three hours on it would require a ridiculously low bitrate which possibly could upset DVDA.

Yes, it is a dual layer disc project. I just did a test with a giant .MOV file instead of an MPEG-2 and it failed after compressing all night. The small test worked but not the full title.

The successful small tests produce the AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS and SPREPARE.SPSS files with the .BUP and .IFO files, but the failures don't produce the SPREPARE.SPSS, .BUP or .IFO files.

My only thought is to change the "format" settings for the MPEG-2. The default is Elementary stream, so I'm trying Program stream (thought I have no idea what the diff is).

I updated the codecs to Windows 10 Codec Pack by Cole Williams Software. Could this be a codec problem?

I love the program's capabilities but it's frustrating that I can't burn anything to DVD.

Elementary is just the video stream and you need to do a separate additional audio stream. Program stream contains both video and audio in your rendered file.

We are often told to avoid TP codec packs as they can cause problems so maybe your codec pack is your problem.

Zip-Zipper wrote on 8/9/2018, 8:12 AM

The Program stream test worked. Hopefully it will work for the whole thing.

I don't know what a TP codec pack is. What is recommended?

Thanks for your help.

vkmast wrote on 8/9/2018, 8:20 AM

TP=Third Party. As Eric said about those packs.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help everybody. The "Elementary" and "Program" stream was helpful.

I think the problem may have been solved by the fact that my project was 3 hours and I needed to set the project to DVD9 so that it would compress it to the proper disc size. Actually, I set it properly to DVD9 but it was the "Fit to Disc" button that I didn't click before. Any way it all worked nicely in the end once I got my head around the proper settings. It's definitely a life saver software as everything else I found seems to be for home movies and I needed it for something professional. I'm definitely buying this software.

Again, thanks for the help everyone!

@Zip-Zipper Since you're

definitely buying this software

why not buy Movie Studio 15 Suite if your OS allows to use it. It includes DVD Architect 7 and costs the same as the standalone purchase of DVD A. MS 15 Platinum has DVD A as well and is even more inexpensive.

Awesome, thanks for the tip vkmast!
