Is screen recording possible?

KatlinBrat wrote on 8/12/2023, 9:35 PM

OBS Studio has been glitching out on me, sometimes it creates lags in recordings (frame rate drops a heck ton in the recording itself) and lately it has also started to add a black screen portion to the beginning of some of my recorded videos as well.

I'm looking for a new screen recorder, and possibly new editor since I know part of the problem is the editor, and I'd like to know if VEGAS supports screen recording and, if so, which of the versions is it available in? Also, if there is a screen recorder, is it possible to run separate from VEGAS or, if not, would the program take up a lot of memory? What about the cursor- does it record the cursor as well?

Also, does the same VEGAS version have the ability to speed up videos?

I do speedpaints / recordings of my artwork so it's important that I have a working screen recorder and editors with specific settings available.

Some versions of VEGAS Pro 19 and 20 included VEGAS Stream. That works well for me and you can import all ISO files in sync to the VEGAS Pro timeline. VEGAS Stream has now been discontinued but the functionality continues in NewBlue Captivate.

Does NewBlue Captivate come with VEGAS automatically or is that something that has to be paid for separately? I'm hoping to do a one time payment, if possible, for VEGAS. If it's something sold separately I'm going to need to buy something that's built in when it's bought, so where would I find VEGAS Pro 19/20 available for purchase because all I am seeing is VEGAS Pro 365?

@KatlinBrat  ... For many years, August has traditionally been the month when the next version of Vegas Pro has been released. See this forum post which suggests that the next release is not far away:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/a-taste-of-things-to-come--141981/?page=3#ca888034

so where would I find VEGAS Pro 19/20 available for purchase because all I am seeing is VEGAS Pro 365?

Vegas Pro 19 has not been available for sale from MAGIX (others like Amazon may have it for sale but almost always its the basic Edit version without extras like Stream etc). If you can't wait for the predicted imminent release of the next Vegas Pro version, then it is still available from Vegas' website. If you're only seeing the 365 option, click on the little blue arrow in the purchase field and the other options should open (e.g. new purchase and upgrade).

@KatlinBrat Hi, I use Nvidia Geforce to record the screen, I have a Nvidia Graphics card tho so I don't know if it will work on other GPU makes,

It's free, Alt+F9 records the screen, I don't know what you mean by "specific settings available"?

@KatlinBrat
For me on laptop no problem to do screenrecordings with Vegas Capture that is available from Vegas Pro 18 and higher.
For me the best is that my iGP does the work.
Look

and the result

It would be a separate purchase from NewBlue:

For what it does, VEGAS Capture works fairly well but is does have some limitations and has issues with some GPUs (especially with many AMD GPUs). The good news is that we have a new capture utility that is being developed to replace it. It is currently in the prototype phase. As with any new feature, there is no guarantee it will work out (remember VEGAS Prepare?) but we really hope to be able to have the initial version finished before the middle of next year. The original VEGAS Capture never quite lived up to what we had hoped and due to some poor design choices, it proved almost impossible to maintain and expand. Lesson learned and we are now working on a more robust solution.
