Is Studio 13 a joke?

I went from 12 to 13 (only because of the great addons)... so... I'm wondering what kind of a video editor prefers a touch screen for editing video? I mean do you rub your greeeezy fingers all over your monitor while you edit? I guess pixels aren't really an issue for people who do... jus' sayin'... what the frig was Sony thinking???
The timeline has lost it's right click features for one, rendering is a pain in the ass now to click through the baby menu to get to your settings and I honestly believe the new NLE is more suitable for a beginning child now than someone who actually wants to make a video... pathetic to say the least... who dreamed this up? A newb from university? Give me a break... back to 12 and if you don't at least give people (who don't use greasy monitors) the option to switch GUI's then get ready to hand them over to Adobe and you can deal with the kindergarten group.

Not much to respond to there, M2D. Mostly rhetorical questiions.

But why are you venting to other users?

Why not contact Sony with your concerns?

13 is unusable for me. I upgraded from 9. My eyes are bad and the grey back ground with black letters makes it so I can not read it. I've only had it a couple weeks and once I was able to set the background to white but I cant find where to do that now. Someone help me on that. Until I change it back to white, I am not able to use it. They change things for the sake of change which does not make it better. Bill Gates made Windows so it was compatable with earlier versions. With Sony you have to learn an new program. Take "add media" why not leave it at "Import media"? that is just a simple change that did not make it a bit of better. Someone please show me where to set the display background white. I have done that for preview window.

MS13 is a bit different, but it is working beautifully for me on my Win8.1 desktop. It takes some patience to actually learn how to use though. I'm finding those features that have changed to be more useful than first thought.

If you haven't figured out how to turn on the advanced display settings, which allows you to move the timeline and preview screens around like in previous versions, you will be super annoyed.

I'm just ready to try it on my 13" zenbook touch screen now. MS12 is impossible to use on a touch screen. Looking forward to seeing if MS13 can cope for the quick project when on the road without having to get out the readers and the usb mouse.

If I were you M2D, I'd spend a little more time figuring out how to use it and a bit less on ranting.

doyal,
>>> Someone please show me where to set the display background white.<<<
see Options > Preferences > Display, leave "Use Vegas color scheme" unchecked, Apply, OK, restart.
I don't have the basic MS 13 though, so I don't know if this is an option there.

Yep, just as I mentioned in doyal's other topic asking about that specific question. He deleted his post after I responded so not sure what's up with that.

Studio 13 is appalling, apart from the terrible interface - what were they thinking, when I render video using non-standard bitrates the actual bitrate it uses seems to be totally random & full screen previewing causes my PC to crash no matter what I do.
Studio 12 works perfectly, I have uninstalled 13, reinstalled 12 & everything is fine, then reinstalled 13 - same problems everytime, I now have both versions on my PC but can't use 13 even tho 12 is totally stable & perfect.
I HAVE contacted Sony technical about the problems & after spending ages trying to find out the problem I finally gave up & asked for a refund cause it don't work, despite having purchased their full home suites for over 5 years the minute I asked for a refund for software that is awful they have not replied to any of my messages.
The company stinks & I wont be buying anything else from Sony ever again, I will stick with V12 cause that is great & when its no longer up to the job I will start using Adobe!

I must admit I too find MS13 to be more of a downgrade and the new look, touch-friendly interface a little "toy-ish".. I have just now C 'n ' P a current project into MS12 because I was getting quite frustrated with various issues in MS13. Workflow has certainly taken a backward step and with this particular project I have had 6 failed renders so far... and for a video project that is over an hour long that's a lot of lost productivity time!

I think Sony really need to release an entirely separate touch-screen version rather than this compromised hybrid. It's disappointing.

If more people asked for a refund (which would be fully justified I feel) they might get the message. Personally I nearly did but as usual with these upgrades there's just enough new stuff in there to make you want it. So I hang on in there hoping they will listen to our views and make the necessary improvements to the interface.

I have told them of my views but you don't get a reply from the 'Suggestions' address and support is no support at all. We know they work on bugs but It would be nice to hear from a developer if this issue is to be addressed. Then we'd know which way to go.

Especially frustrating is that Version 12 is no longer available. Now if someone wants to get into Vegas Movie Studio editing, they can't obtain the useful version that works anymore.

I'm a Vegas Pro user still on version 9. If i needed to set up more workstations i'd prefer to buy more licenses to version 9, since it works on all the hardware i have and doesn't suffer a lot of the bugs nor contain all the "downgrade" UI changes of the newer versions. But, i can't. So, i'm not buying more.

There are several aspects of the MSP 13 interface which have been widely criticized for a good reason, but v 13 works and is useful, no question about that.

How do you turn on the advanced display settings? My video display screen has become somehow become extremely small and I don't know how to get it back to a normal size.
Thanks

Ban - go into your video card software and see if your settings have changed. I guess you can also use control panel, but the software (current) for your video can should be a better way.

No 13 is no joke, works great on my system. Great thing about the market, you can also buy something else if you are unhappy (But I've used most of the other software and nothing has the pure power of MS especially with the free plugins).
