Looking for snapshot tool, in Vegas 18. Am I losing it?

Bandicoot wrote on 11/7/2020, 8:04 PM

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Just leapt into Vegas 18 (previous version was Vegas 12). Great work Magix. I'm a bit baffled. I simply want to take a snapshot of my video and previously, I did this all the time - not hard, click on the icon & it was done. I have read the help file, I have gone to the video preview window and I can see the controls underneath, but I am not seeing any options to take a screenshot - no icons. I've tried right click, I've expanded the 'hamburger logo', but no options. I'm a bit embarrassed having to ask, but I readily admit this doesn't appear a challenging question for the many talents on this forum. Thanks in anticipation.

Bandicoot.

Do you have icons along the top of your preview window? You should and what you require is there.

Bandicoot wrote on 11/7/2020, 10:26 PM

Thanks Eric. That's my issue. No icons above video preview, only the control tools below. It's as though there is a setting 'show icons' or similar that I have not activated. In Vegas 12, they are always 'just there'. Absolutely nothing sitting above the video preview window in my version of Vegas Pro 18. I've simply downloaded & installed Wayne's (Happy Otter Scripts) excellent free Snapshot tool, works great, but curious I cannot see icons. Appreciate your interest.

Strange. I'm a VMS user but suspect Pro is the same. Right Click on Preview window and select "Show Toolbar".

Thanks Dexcon & Eric. Yes, I am familiar with what icons should be visible, its just that since installing Vegas 18, I do not get to see the icons as indicated in your screenshot. Here's what I see...

Check what you see if you right-click on the Preview window.

@vkmast  ... I think that you've hit upon the reason. Unchecking Show Toolbar and Show Status Bar replicates the OP's preview window display.

Hi vkmast & Dexcon. I very much appreciate your interest. I agree with your thoughts, however, if I right click in the preview window, all I get is an audio 'ding' (windows) but absolutely no menu appears. I agree it seems like I have a display ('show toolbar etc) unchecked, however, in this case, that does not appear to be the issue. I feel like a goose, as I've used Vegas for many years, first time I've had this issue is with the install of Vegas Pro 18. Rest of the program is running like clockwork. Perhaps I have an incompatibility with some aspect of my system, but like yourselves, I feel as though it must be operator error :-). No drama for now, the system is stable and I can use Happy Otter snapshot script to achieve my snapshot. Simply very curious. I have trawled through all 'preference' menus as well. Never mind. Thanks.

@Bandicoot  ... Given that you've tried most things without success, a reset might resolve the issue. A reset returns Vegas Pro back to its factory default settings. To do a reset, have a look at this link:

Resetting is often worth a try at least. Be sure to follow the instructions closely. OTOH, maybe a corrupted download or install is the issue?
