Low Memory Error Upon Rendering

BobWard wrote on 8/7/2013, 12:19 PM
I have a project with 261 high resolution still photos that probably average around 8 MB per picture, plus approximately nine 15 seccond movie clips.

When I try to render this project, I get the "low sytem memory" error after about 2 minutes of rendering.

I am running Vegas Movie Studio 10 Platinum on a Windows 7, 64-bit system with 4087 MB of system memory. So I am apparently encountering the 32-bit memory limitation associated with VMS10.

Before I purchase VMS 12, which I believe will support the full 4087 MB of memory in my 64 bit system, is there anyway to tell if my project is too large to render, even if it has access to the full 4087 MB of memory?

Vegas freezes during slideshow render
Low memory errors in Vegas
Program hangs while rendering or during editing

You could download and install the trial of v12 64-bit and test for yourself?
free trial?

Yes, I read those articles before posting & tried playing with a few different settings under the Preferences Menu. Still get the low memory error. So the problem is definitely with the VMS10 32 bit memory limitation on a 64-bit operating system.

Agreed, I could download the trail version of VMS12 and see if that will solve the issue. But before going to that trouble, I was hoping there might be some trype of formula that could be employed to see if the number of high-rez photos I have are beyond the rendering capability of VMS12.

Beyond that, I guess my only option would be to do incremental renderiings and build a new project from those renderings.

Bob,
in addition to the rendering capacity of MSP 12 (64-bit), one needs to accept that the larger the images are, the more RAM will be used. Using up all the RAM can cause preview and render issues, as well as other problems..
You (and I) only have the 4GB RAM.

The ntcore.com "patch" mentioned at the bottom of this thread may be worth a try:

I'd make a copy of the VMS executable first though.

I went ahead and downloaded the 64-bit trial version of Movie Studio Platinum 12 and the entire project rendered with no problems in 1:03 hours. The project timeline was 55 minutes long. I am going to render it again with the "2-Pass" option checked (which is what I normally use) and see if that makes any difference.

So the extra memory freed up by the 64-bit version seemed to solve the "low memory" rendering problem.

I too upgraded from 10 to 12; I found it a great improvement. Make sure you buy the 'suite' edition (with Magic Bullet Looks). You could wait a little longer, for version 13, which I think is about to be released.

I also installed the NTcore utility for VMS10, which lets VMS10 utilize all system memory on a 64-bit system. Took less than 60 seconds to do the install. Opened VMS10 and tried rendering my project again and it worked fine - no low memory errors. Did a 2-pass render to mpeg2 in just under 2 hours using VMS10, compared to 1:32 hours in VMS 12.

So, anyone with 64-bit systems generating "low memory" errors in VMS 10, try the NTcore patch, that should cure the problem.

I have an Intel i5 quad core, Windows 7 64-bit, nVidia GTX 560Ti, 4GB memory.

Awesome! I'm glad the patch worked for you.
