Magic Bullet Looks :(

Former user wrote on 12/30/2017, 4:22 PM

I'm having an issue with magic bullet looks. The image is a snapshot I took in Vegas Pro and the video is the rendered project. Look at the top of the character's hair, in the snapshot that streak is white and looks OK but when rendered that streak becomes a bright and ugly-looking yellow. I've reported this to Red Giant but they haven't replied to me yet. I'm aware this could be a render settings issue but I have tried many different render settings and the results are the same.Go to this post for a better description of the problem: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-or-magic-bullet-looks--110051/

I’m responding to your most recent “Locked” posting, where you gave 3 examples. I’d suggest that there is no problem with MBL and VP. I’m sticking my dumb neck out here and I’m guessing here but, using 32bit gets you more detail coloration information than 8bit. Have I got that wrong? Anyway, that 32bit looks like it’s doing what it should.

You are correct that 32-bit gets you more colour detail but the rendered output is different to what you see in the preview window which is the issue.

So, the Preview is what you want. Yes? Then what are you rendering to?

Just to reconfirm, you want what it to look like in the 32bit Preview - Yes? OK, this is beyond my pay grade. Hopefully somebody can pick the bones out of your Render template to advise you.

I kind of found a solution. Instead of rendering to a .mp4 file I rendered it as a .avi file and the colours match what was in the preview window. The colours were also displayed properly when I rendered it as a .mov file so there must be some sort of issue with the other file formats.

I’m not surprised. However, interpreting just what it is within that MP4 compared to the AVI and MOV you’d need to carefully compare them using MediaInfo. Post this information and possibly we’d be able to see the difference/s. I’m wondering whether it’s the post Render Previewing is flattening the colours? Now there’s a thought! Are you post Render Previewing within the same Project?

How do I check the MediaInfo? I'm not exactly sure what you mean by post render previewing.
