You are right, it did not used to be this way, but in this modern age of piracy, it's necessary. Just like earlier versions of vegas did not used to require an internet connection at least once per month to work, but now they do. Thank software pirates for ripping off a small team of dedicated developers trying their best to earn a living and make a great product.
