Media Generators Thumbnails Missing - Build 142

mark-b8783 wrote on 7/27/2019, 1:05 AM

Hi,

When I select Media Generators tab I can only see Checkerboard, Color Gradient, Credit Roll, Noise Texture, Solid Color, Test Pattern and Titles& Text thumbnalis?

If I select Titles and text another window pops up with Video Media Generators at the bottom.

If I select the PRESETS drop down it appears to show what I would have thought would have been the thumbnails for the various animations for Titles & Text.

Is this what it is supposed to look like ?

Cheers

ps Transitions and Video FX tabs all have thumbnails of transitions available.

You expected VMS 15 and 16 to be the same?
Maybe it comes back in the next version, you are not the first who complained about this.

Ahh the second image was supposed to be a tutorial on VMS16 ?

I did have 15 and upgraded to 16 maybe missed the change....

Would look better with thumbnails for text transition to match others?

As you can see from the title of the video it says Movie Studio 16

This tutorial has the same display as mine. :-)

It did not say Movie Studio 16 PLATINUM from which build 142 is the last one.
So you were asking about the Platinum versie and that is another than the plain Movie Studio

Movie Studio 16 basic version and 16 Platinum are similar regarding Titles & Text. As @j-v implied, vs. 16 are not showing those thumbnails now. You need to use the dropdown menus in Preset/Animation.

Hello community, first post. 😀

I have the same problem: my Movie Studio 16 Platinum looks like his first picture.

I just spent hours looking for a solution and stumbled on this post. I have looked at half a hundred tutorials on Movie Studio and Pro on other subjects over the last few weeks and almost all of them have shown this sort of "navigation" pane for plugins in conjunction with presets in the form of thumbnails. It seems easier to find stuff, especially for a noob like me. This change is a major one to product functionality in my opinion and really confused me. Considering people like me are the targets of a product like Movie Studio I think this is valid feedback. I have been able to use the dropdown-preset in fx, etc but kept looking for the "plugin explorer" and the "search plugin" field which is also missing as well as the "x" to the left of the magnifying glass.

It was a little confusing. But....

@GABRIEL_TRON welcome to the forum and thanks for your comment. As @j-v said some of the things mentioned have been brought up before, e.g. here and may be reconsidered later. Several users do not seem to quite agree that "Simplified Video FX, Transition, and Generated Media windows make these easier to understand and use".

I Agree wit that. :-)

Its not until you have added a text transition on the timeliene then double click the timeline version that you get the popout screen to view all the options available with that transition.

@vkmast Agreed. I find it a backward step. Personally I prefer to have the Tree View in the Media Generators pane so you can select an items preset before you drag it to the timeline. For me this is easier to understand and work with than the new "Simplified" version?

Removal of the folder view and thumbnails showing different presets was a backward step, because it makes the program less user friendly now. I complained directly to the developers about this when VMSP16 was released and was told this was done to make it easier for beginners to learn the program - something I 100% do not agree with. I just hope they fix it.

The solution seems like a no brainer to me. Keep the program as it is when in simple mode, but show ALL folders and ALL preset thumbnails when in Power User Mode.

As this step backward was already criticized directly after the release of VMS16, I hoped that this was restored with the release of the last build.

Less doesn't not always mean easier. Easier would be the possibility to make your own favourite FX folder with only the FX you need.

I'll add you a point for that 3point to 4point

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has anything changed regarding this feature? With the release of MS v17, I don't expect any further changes to v16 but maybe I missed something since August 2019?

Otherwise, has is changed in v17?

vkmast wrote on 5/7/2020, 5:21 AM

The change came with VMS and VMSP 17. The screengrab is from the Transitions tab, but the VideoFX and MediaGenerator tabs changed accordingly as well.
