Menu help

thebrain900 wrote on 3/12/2012, 12:02 PM
I have DVD Architect Studio 4.5 and I am making a Menu bassed DVD.

I have 3. video files on the Menu screen as Thumbnails.
And I have them placed on the left side starting at the top and going down one under the other.

It worked when I put it in my player but it all was Off the screen on the left hand side.

But when I make it it all is on screen and even has a little space between the video thumbnail and the outside of the scren.

Is there a way ware after I resize the video files to the side I want to just have them Auto arange on screen so I know they will be in the screen or do you have to do it by Draging them?

All TVs cut a little off the sides of your video. (It varies from TV to TV.)

So, first, turn on your Safe Margins. Safe Margins are guides to show you where to place your text and buttons to ensure that they will always appear onscreen, no matter which TV you show your disc on.

You can adjust the safe margin amount in system preferences - but you should start with some tests on your particular combination of TV and set-top player - some cut-off the screen more than others. Only experimenting with trial burns will give you an indication of what will work.

NOTE; That you can take the same burned DVD and play it on a DVD-ROM player on a PC in Windows Media Player and you should see everything complete edge to edge of the screen. The safe margin issue has to do with set-top players/and TV combinations - not what gets actually burned to the disc.

Look under View, Workspace Overlays.

And, if you look under the Options menu, you'll find an option to Snap to Safe Areas -- just in case you want to line the buttons right up along the left or right side of the safe area of your video frame. (Lots more hints like this in my book, on Amazon, if you're interested.)

thebrain,
just to recap what Steve Grisetti says:
See DVD Architect Studio (5.0): Options / Preferences / Editing.
Select or deselect in View / Workplace Overlays / Show Title Safe Area, Show Action Safe Area, and see Options for Snapping.
In Preview select or deselect View Safe Areas (grey rectangle icon, upper right corner).

See also Steve's Muvipix.com (Resources) for some great tutorials.

Thanks for the plug for the site, vk!

On the home page, just type "DVD Architect" into the product search box and you'll see lots of tutorials, including my free Basic Training series.

Yes & yes.
thebrain900 wrote on 3/13/2012, 6:13 PM
Thank you so if I go into the program and click all of these
Show Grid.
Show Objec Area.
Show Title Area.

even before I ad video clips and even if I just click all of them and then close the program for next time they will be activated?

You say yes I just want to maked sure it is not just for the project you are working on at that time.
Steven Myers wrote on 3/13/2012, 6:40 PM
If you turn the overlays on, they will stay on until you turn them off. This is independent of any specific project.
The overlays will not appear on your finished DVD.

Careful, though... If you make a mistake, the world will explode.

Thank LOL I know I can just try and try again but it takes me so long because of my bed eyes.

And I clicked on Show Grid and it did apear on the preview and this is ok but when I click on all the other Tabs in the Overlay they do not get a checkmark in them so I did not know if they turned on.

I get they did right?

When you go to the resizing tool and pick a video clip that you have on the menu screen you can resize it to make it smaller.

Is there somewere you can type a size that you would like it to be or you just have to resize the video clips by hand?

I meen when you have all your video files show up as Thimbnails.
Thanks

thebrain,
click the thumbnail(s) on the menu screen, see Button Properties / Transformations and click to write x and y sizes.
You can also download the manual for DVD A Studio 4.5 here

I tryed to make my Menu have a background video play over and over.

I insert the video as the menu and it works but it only plays one time.

So I go to the upper Right hand side to were it says Loop Point and I click it to get the Slider and I move it all the way to the Right.

Because when it is through playing I want it to Loop from the end.

And it wont Loop why?
vkmast wrote on 3/20/2012, 4:33 AM
thebrain,
Menu page properties, Menu length Specify, Length (e.g. 00:00:15,000). Also change in End Action, Command to Loop, if you want that.
in DVDAS Help, see Setting looping points for menus.
This might help too

Thank you for the help.

I am trying to re size the Video Clips I have as Bottuns.

I have 3. video clips on the menu screen and I have them all showing a snapshot of the video it will play.

They look good but I want to re size them make them smaller or biger but I want them to be the same size.

So I know you click on one thumbnail and then go to the Properties on the right side.

I have the Keep Aspect Ratio set to YES.
And when I ajust the X or Y size the Thumbnail clip does not change in size just the Border around it.

Now I know I can just Drag the handels around the vido clip and make them all the same size. But when I make another DVD I want to make sure I make the Video Bottuns Thumnail the same size I did in the DVD screen.

Is there some way to Type in the Height and Width by hand for the Thumbnails size?
Thanks

I'm not sure I follow you now. Did you see my post 3/14/2012 in this thread?
thebrain900 wrote on 3/20/2012, 3:54 PM
Sorry this is what I ment.

When you ad a video clip to the Menu screen you can have it display in a lot of diferant ways.

I have it showup as a Thumbnail and it displays an image of the vido it will play if you click on it.

Now if I select the thumbnail I can Grab the Handels around it to re size it to make it biger or smaller.

But as you ad more and more video clips to you menud screen I don't want to Drag ever video clips Handels to re size them.

Because I want to make sure they all are the same size.

So I click on the video clip and then go to the Properties window on the right hand side.

I see you can type a Number for the size you want it to be in the X and Y size box.

But this does not make my Thumbnail biger or smaller it just makes the bordr around it biger or smaller.????

There must be something in your workflow I can't quite follow, because this works for me.
Maybe someone else will see what's wrong...
And try reading Help: Button Properties, Transformations.

edit: try changing only the X size OR the Y size and see what happens.
See also the buttons to the left of the screen for adjusting.
(And don't forget those free tutorials mentioned above.)

Thanks for the help all is ok with re sizeing.

But I still need help with the Gride Lines and Snap to Gride.

I clicked on Show Safe Area.
I clicked on Snap to Object.
I clicked on Snap to Gride.

Now I see Doted Lines going aroind the screen in a Square.

Then there is another row right under it.

Am I right these two rows are the safe ares?
vkmast wrote on 3/20/2012, 8:37 PM
Select and deselect Show Safe Area and Show Grid options one at a time and see what changes.
For snapping, see Help, Enable Snapping.
