Movie Studio 12 - Project Media Window Problem

Sam1972 wrote on 10/27/2014, 5:17 PM
I would like to know if its possible to re-arrange the order of the content in the project media window before dragging onto the time line. If so, how? I am working with multiple still images. I am importing them from various files into the project media window. If I could re-arrange them here so I can drop them onto the time line in the sequence I want them to appear, this would save me a great deal of time! Thank you,

You could try changing Views > Details in the Project Media window and use the Comment column to number your files. Use the arrow in that column heading to arrange, select and drag the files from there. See if it would work for you.
The VASST StillMotion slideshow plugin allows you to rearrange your files using up and down arrows in Edit File List.

I gave this a short try. I undocked the Explorer window and click on the Project Media tab. One at a time, I dragged image files from the Explorer window to into the Project Media Window. It loads them into the Project Media folder in the same order in which you put them into it. So, then highlighted them all and dragged them into the video track and they went in in that same order. Try itand see if that's what you are trying to do.

You don't actually need to undock the Explorer window. If you select the files and then drag to the Project Media tab and, keeping the mouse button pressed, over to the window, when you release the mouse button the files will be dropped there.

I am sure I have seen on a tutorial somewhere that there is a key or sequence of keys that you can hold whilst holding the mouse over the image in the project media window that allows you to move the image to another position and then release it in a new position whilst still in project media. This is really what I was hoping to find (so annoyed with myself for not making a note of it when I saw it!). Any ideas what the key might be? I'm sure I've tried every combination but I just cant find it! Thank you again.

Man, it took a while to find this! It is right there in Vegas, but only in the Platinum version, and it only works with still images.

You need to go to the Insert menu and select 'Slideshow'. A screen will open where you can add still images (and NO video!), then start rearranging as much as you want. When done, you can drop the sequence in a video track. There are also settings for transition effects, overlap time etc.

Hope you've got the Platinum version, Sam!

An excellent heads-up, Ivan, as Slideshow Creator does have good rearranging/sorting options.
I forgot all about the included (as of v 10) Slideshow Creator option , because I've now used the StillMotion plug-in.
And I don't think you can rearrange in the Project Media window without a workaround. Some users move pictures to a specific folder and import from there directly to the timeline.
AFAIK, the basic Movie Studio went from v 11 straight to v 13, so the OP should have this option in his v 12.

Thank you so much! I do have the Platinum version with the Slideshow function. I've had a go and this will do what I need it to do and save me time and hassle! Thank you very much!
