Movie Studio 13 has stopped working

peter-findal wrote on 5/27/2017, 10:39 AM

It has been working swell for quite some time but now it come up with an error "unmanaged exception" forcing me to send a report to Sony then it crashes. I have attempted the various compatability fixes with the software suggested on the chat boards here with no results.

This link discovered on Google describes some of the others experiencing similar problems: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/cant-launch-sony-movie-studio-13/d2bf377e-e0bf-4905-bda3-bf05f9acf64f

Anyone have any suggestions?

It might be helpful to email the cash report to the MAGIX support team for the VEGAS products. I am not certain reports submitted through Sony are properly redirected to that team. To email a report, hold the SHIFT key down when you click SEND. This will save the report as a file on disk. Do not use the email link shown on the dialog, but instead locate the file listed in the dialog and email it as an attachment using your regular email client.

Thank you for the suggestion but I have already done that.

They replied with an offer of discount coupons - LOL

I have yet to decide if there are even people involved with Magix

These troubleshooting tips for Vegas Pro also apply to Movie Studio: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-troubleshooting-crashing-and-stability--104785/

Actually you need to hold CONTROL and SHIFT when clicking SEND: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/how-to-send-error-reports-using-the-problem-reporting-service-prs--103727/

In reference to the email; tried that too, Magix just referred me to Sony Creative software customer Service who proceeded to refer me here.....

I am struggling to get myself to proceed with the second half of the suggestion since it is an option to abandon Sony software completely and replace it with another program from Corel or Cyberlink for a reasonable price.

I (the Sony customer) do not believe that I should have to do so much labor to make their product work since the program was working and then proceeded to fail - thats on them not me.

Very disappointed with Sony and Magix is a joke - their phone lines are available 4 hours a day, I think that says it all about the quality of service involved here.

If you reset (exactly) as follows and it does not help, read this post.

Here is the error message:
Problem Description
Application Name: Movie Studio Platinum
Application Version: Version 13.0 (Build 879) 64-bit
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)

I know enough computer tech's to know that the information above would give them enough info to know how to fix or at least where to look - I do not seem to be able to even get that much info from Sony, I do not understand that unless they are ending their software venture and no longer care about retaining their customers

Sony did end their Vegas venture about a year ago. In addition to what was mentioned above, try updating to moviestudiope13.0.955 from http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/

Turn also GPU off in Options > Preferences > Video if it's on.

You probably have the Magix rebranded build of Movie Studio 13, not Platinum. So no help from trying the updates mentioned above. This topic has the same type of error log mentioned. See if the driver-related solution in that thread helps.
