What is the resolution of your display? VMS13 works fine on a 1920x1080 display. When display resolution is lower you will have less space to display the video and audio tracks.

Do you have the basic stripped down Movie Studio 13 or Movie Studio Platinum 13?
The users of the basic version have always complained that they are not able to resize windows, group/ungroup things, or dock/undock windows. Movie Studio Platinum 13 in the Advanced Edit Mode has all of those options. The Simple Edit Mode in it seems somewhat similar to the basic Studio 13 though.

If you have MS Platinum 13 and it is in Simple Edit Mode try going to Advanced Edit Mode. There hover your mouse over the thin border between the windows and the timeline until you see a double-headed arrow. Then press down the left mouse button and drag. If that does not work or you have the basic MS 13, you probably need to try resetting.

I have a laptop with 1366x768

Before trying that resolute solution, try first VIEW / WINDOW LAYOUTS / DEFAULT LAYOUT.

3POINT, does the basic SMS 13 even have that option? My SMSP 13 in Simple Edit Mode does not. The old comparison table stated this re SMS 13 "Features: ...Comprehensive window docking options, recallable window layouts=NO". SMSP13 in Advanced does have that of course.

That's definitely to low to get a workable UI with MS13, either in basic, platinum, simple or advanced edit mode.

As a second computer I had a laptop (15 inch screen, 1366x768) with SMSP 13 installed and I used it for quite a while. Admittedly it had its restrictions, but I never had the issue the OP is reporting. Even on his laptop he should be able to see four tracks on his default layout in both SMS 13 and SMSP 13 without needing to use the vertical scroll bar, unless the UI has gone wrong.

From the screenshot that OP published it is hard to see what's exactly wrong, a screenshot of the whole screen would say more. When OP uses Simple Mode, Timeline height cannot be changed. When using Advanced Mode, Timeline height can be changed manually and restored to original height by VIEW / WINDOW LAYOUTS / DEFAULT LAYOUT.

On a lores display some extra space for the timeline can be reserved by removing Toolbar and Status bar. See also VIEW / TOOLBAR and or VIEW / STATUS BAR

Judging from the screenshot he's having either basic MS 13 or MSP 13 Simple Edit mode as there's no infamous Config button in sight. Thanks for confirming what I said in earlier comments. Anyway, the OP has marked this resolved. I recall many earlier threads complaining that basic MS 13 UI has gone wrong.

Also better forget the MS13 UI, it was the worst UI for MS ever. I'm glad that MS14 UI is completely redesigned, I like that design even more than the new VPro15 UI.
