Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 having problems

Jeff57 wrote on 12/16/2019, 10:07 PM

On my PC with Windows 10, I cannot render my finished edited product. Is there some type of driver update I need? I get the blue death screen after about 8 minutes of rendering...When I had Win 7, I never had this problem. Please help, I am in a fix with a project I am working on... Thanks very much!!

Hi j-v. I can only give some of the info you asked for. It is the Vegas Movie Studio 10.0 HD Platinum version. I used various video sources, and have finished editing the video. It won't let me render it to an avi file so that I can reproduce it for others on my duplicator. My PC has 16 GB Ram with an AMD A-10 5800K with Radeon HD Graphics, 3800 Mhz. I am using Win 10 Home. I am a retired video guy and am not current with the products now. I've had this Vegas for at least 7 years. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Jeff, all what J-v asks is more data to help you, how can he help if you are using 7 years old software when win10 was hardly got it's codenamed "Threshold".... without full info?

VMS 10 Platinum (and 11) was still 32-bit only and as such can use only a small portion of your RAM.

I appreciate your comment, but all I can give additionally is the program is Build 179 of the Vegas Movie Studio 10.0 HD Platinum version. I'm not a techno-editing geek any longer, am doing this project as a favor to a group in our community. As mentioned earlier, I edited the project, but it will not let me render the video. There has to be a simple reason for that. I never had this issue with WIN 7.

Jeff57 wrote on 12/17/2019, 6:55 AM

VK, so if I upgrade, to a 64 bit program, I shouldn't have this issue? Will I lose my current editing job?

vkmast wrote on 12/17/2019, 7:06 AM

You should not lose it, but if you used 3rd-party 32-bit plug-ins they will not work. I'm afraid you can't fully test with the current version trials as the rendering is limited to less than two minutes. Generally speaking, much has happened since version 10. And if you decide to upgrade, consider the Platinum version, not the basic one.

Btw, you do not have to uninstall the old version.

Thank you VK. Just so I'm clear on this. If I upgrade to the newer Platinum version, I won't lose what I've done recently...I put about 25 hours on this video, and sure don't want to have a do-over...

You've been a great help, it's much appreciated!!

vkmast wrote on 12/17/2019, 9:53 AM

You should copy your project file with a different name and try that in the new version. That way you should not lose your original project version if something goes wrong.

I am going to install 13 HD Platinum...I just hope I don't have to redo my project...

From Sony MSP 13 Release Notes (July 2015):

"When using the 64-bit version of Movie Studio Platinum, third-party plug-ins will work only if they are 64-bit plug-ins. Please check with the plug-in vendor for available updates. You can share projects between 32- and 64-bit versions of Movie Studio Platinum installations, performing editing as needed in 32-bit Movie Studio Platinum and finishing the project in 64-bit Movie Studio Platinum."

Sony MSP 13 came as 32-bit and 64-bit (last builds 954/955). The later MAGIX rebranded builds are only 64-bit.

I am in deep S&%t now. I installed 13 HD Platinum, and I am unable to transfer my completed video from 10.0. Plus 10 is much more user friendly. I am fried and angry with Microsoft, as I know this is a WIN 10 issue.

Jeff57 wrote on 12/17/2019, 7:16 PM

I have no idea what to do now.

EricLNZ wrote on 12/17/2019, 8:31 PM

You are running old software on an up to date OS so don't expect everything to run smoothly. Also you make vague statements which don't assist anyone trying to help you.

You say "I installed 13 HD Platinum, and I am unable to transfer my completed video from 10.0." Firstly there is no 13 HD Platinum only Sony MSP13 or the Magix rebranded version. Exactly which are you using?

As for "transferring your completed video" what exactly are you doing? Hopefully you followed vkmast's advice and made a copy of your vf project file and renamed it so as not to cause confusion. You are then trying to open this in VMS13. What happens then. Provided your source files are still in the same location your project should open.

Lastly have you tried running your old VMS10 in compatibility mode for Win 7?

Jeff57 wrote on 12/17/2019, 9:24 PM

E, please excuse my confusion. I did install the 13.0 Platinum program, and did transfer the complete, edited video I just completed to it. When I attempted to render the file on that program, I again got the blue death screen, as I did with the 10.0 program...I haven't tried running the program in compatibility mode, but I am taking my PC to the shop tomorrow morning that installed my WIN 10 OS on my PC to find out wth is going on. I never had this issue with WIN 7. They've got the diagnostic programs to find out what's going on, and I am tired of fighting with it, since I'm not as tech savvy as most of you folks on here.

Thanks again for your post.

I finished my project witch is 34min in total. now I press the "make a movie" button, it will download and tell me its done. when I check the downloads are only 3-8 min long.

@Lea-f You've posted in a five year old thread with what is probably a different problem. Suggest you start a new thread and start with telling us which Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio version you are using.

I'm using the Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0
