Movie Studio Platinum 13 won't import .mp4 AVCHD

Arrover wrote on 11/25/2014, 8:42 PM
Hey guys. I recently bought Movie Studio Platinum 13 as a step up from Adobe Premiere Elements 11. I'm liking it so far BUT I can't import .mp4 files that I made with Premiere Elements. I've searched around this forum and tried a few fixes but nothing has worked. I've tried some different file extensions, updated my quicktime, and installed the x264vfw codec. This is really a big problem for me. Any suggestions are appreciated.

A few details, let me know if you need more info:

Did you check this thread?

None of those will have any effect on how Movie Studio handles MP4 files. QuickTime is only used for MOV files. x264vfw is a Video For Windows codec that only affects AVI files.

Don't be confused by the advice on QuickTime in that thread, it is not the solution. Once again, QuickTime has nothing to do with how Movie Studio handles MP4 files.

The advice at the bottom of the thread to run the file through Handbreak is what you should try. Alternately try something like tsMuxeR to re-mux the file into a new AVCHD container with the same video and audio.

You don't have AVCHD files. They don't come with MP4 extension.

There is nothing obvious that would prevent your file from opening in Vegas. If you could upload a short sample somewhere, I'll have a look at it.

Vegas 13 uses its internal MP4 decoder.
Earlier versions (11 and previous I think) use the Quicktime 32 libs to open these files.

Thanks guys. I should have specified in my original post that Movie Studio does import the audio, just not the video. I will try these suggestions. Will Handbrake reduce the quality of the original clips?

Just to be clear, I don't have Vegas, just Movie Sutdio Platinum 13. In Adobe Premiere Elements I have always selected the AVCHD option. It says the file type is h.264 and it spits out a .mp4 file.... So I'm confused by what you said musicvid10. Obviously I'm still learning and I really appreciate you guys helping me out.

Arrover, that vid is only 20 seconds long. Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. It's only 20 seconds long. It's an end card that I use on youtube videos.
