mp4 Video Imported to Vegas Issue

jtmorris wrote on 10/9/2014, 1:02 PM
Hi, I am new to Vegas and learning the ropes, so please forgive my noobness.

When I import an mp4 video into vegas, it becomes pixelated/artifacted/buggy (unsure the correct term). It remains that way after making the video. Original video is fine, but as soon as I put it in Vegas this happens in the same spots in the video. It's often where there is movement.

I have tried to disable resample and change bit rate, but those seem to only really affect the video after it's finished, whereas this happens the moment I put it on the timeline.

Ever had this issue? Any thoughts? What settings info can I provide for proper troubleshooting?

A sincere thank you for any help!

If I get what you mean right that you only see this poor quality in your preview window then adjust your preview quality.

Your preview window in in "Preview (Auto)" which is a very low setting and can make video and stills look pixelated. Depending on your hardware, try use "Good/Full" or if you can "Best/Full" and switch off "Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback"

Note that depending on your hardware/system your playback framerate my drop drop below realtime with the higher quality preview settings.

Thanks for the reply!

They are present in the lowest preview quality as well as the highest. Unfortunately as well, these glitches remain after I make (render) the movie too. They all happen in the same places.

Here's a video showing what I mean:

I appreciate the help!

Hi JTMorris & welcome to the forum. I've read your note, but cannot view a ny of your links, ti imageshack or YouTube. It looks to me as you have provided your account upload link, not the publicly viewable URL. It may help to revisit those links and also suggest read the 'sticky' note at the top of the forum about 'mark ups', that will allow you to insert working hyperlinks into your forum posts. That will make it considerably easier for members to provide you with helpful advice.

Ok, now I can finally see what you mean. Unfortunately you have not filled out your system specs so I have to go with an assumption here.

I assume you are using GPU acceleration and that seems to cause you problems. Try switching it off and see if it goes away.

Thanks for the tip Duncan! The forums were editing the first link, lol. The rest all seem to work (and sorry for my all around noobness again!)

OldSmoke, thanks again!

I've added my system specs now. Unfortunately I am unable to adjust GPU acceleration at all. Both in Vegas (the option is not there), and on my system (the button is grayed out). I may not have admin privileges to change that. I will have to check with our company tech guy to see what he can figure out.(this will take a few days for him to come by)

If you have any other ideas what might be causing it, fire away!

@jtmorris

Can you please make your system spec visible to the forum. I am not sure what you mean by "Both in Vegas the option is not there)"

The OP seems to use Movie Studio Platinum 10, which explains the no GPU acceleration option. I recall that VMSP 10 did have some pixelation issues, which mostly went away after upgrading. The SCS tech support even advised me to download the VPro 10 trial as a solution, which did help...
The OP might take his issue to the Movie Studio forum and include the system specs, we won't mind that too much there. He needs to check "Display system information on my forum profile page" and Submit on the Forum Settings page though or it does not show.

Thanks a ton guys. I really appreciate you patiently working through this with me.

System settings should be working now & I will re post in the movie studio forum. I sure hope it's not an upgrade issue. That's a pricey fix. I will test the trial idea. Thanks!

@jtmorris

Have you tried updating your video card driver? Try AMD Catalyst 13.12.78. That worked well with my HD6970.
