mp4 won't open

Running VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum 14.0 (Build 122) on Windows 10. It won't open some mp4 video files I recently created. I've seen suggestions to remove mp4 plugins from the FileIO Plug-Ins folder and tried this by renaming each of the dlls as xxxxxx_old.dll. First in turn, then all of them. I hoped this might force Movie Studio to use qt7.dll but (if it did) the mp4 files still will not open.

I wouldn't dink around with the operating system unless I knew exactly what I was doing. More likely it has something to do with the make-up of the MP4.

How did you create these MP4s? Are they from a camcorder or did you use some piece of software to create it? Some software, like the software used to record game play or rip YouTube videos, can create MP4s with variable frame rates, which don't edit well.

See one of Grandmaster Nick's FAQs for more on what Steve suggested.

I used a program called Magic DVD Ripper as I found some old home vids on DVDs and decided to work on them. The codec I chose is named "AppleTV" which produces an mp4 file. I also tried a codec called "MP4" but it also would not upload into Movie Studio.

OK. I see I am not alone! FYI, the follow data provided by mediainfo on the file I was trying to load into Movie Studio.

Try to do a "Search" mpeg-4 visual on this forum and see what you get.

Btw., it's more useful to post the MediaInfo Text View report.

In Media Info, set the View to Tree and then post the screen capture of the data it reports. The collapsed view you have in your screen capture doesn't provide the information we need.

I used handbrake to render this file again as an mp4, and Vegas can read that, but I suppose I lose some quality with the extra rendering. Not that it's much good to start with!
