MS 14+15 Platinum or MS 14+15 Suite

vkmast wrote on 1/13/2018, 10:35 AM

Open your MSP 13 (or Vegas Pro 13) to check if you get the (upgrade) offer below

MS 14 P + MS 15 P $ 39.99 or MS 14 S + MS 15 S $ 79.99.

Valid until January 16, 2018.

("...please have the serial number for your previous version ready.")

http://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/upgrades-for-vegas-pro-and-vegas-movie-studio/ has this offer as well. Check the prices on your territory's version of that URL, including "de", "gb", "ca", "int" etc.

Even if we set aside the upgrade price, an new version is always exciting!

vkmast wrote on 1/13/2018, 1:04 PM

@Markk655 agreed 🙂. Hopefully, the "fully customizable, modern interface" includes the color scheme options that have been promised.

Yes, looks interesting.

What's going on?
I got the offer from VMS 13 too.

I also have VMS 14. Why is there no offer there?
When I click on 'Check for News' all I get is the usual 'There are no news items to display this time.'
Is there really a VMS 15?
Where are Release Notes?
Where is an announcement?

This page: http://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/ shows a sale but only has links to VMS 14.

"I also have VMS 14. Why is there no offer there?"

Technically, this is an offer for VMS 14, so if you are checking from VMS 14 it wouldn't make sense to offer it to you again. But I get what you're saying -- you don't want to miss out on a good update to 15. I'm just trying to explain why you see it in 13 but not in 14.

What are the "normal" upgrade prices? Are these prices any lower than normal?

robbif2 wrote on 1/13/2018, 8:53 PM

Right, Tim.

I understand the offer is for VMS 13 folks, but if a VMS 15 exists, whether a special offer or not for us 14 users, why is there no "public" announcement for the existence of 15?

Has anyone seen this marketing "trick" before?

Tim L wrote on 1/13/2018, 9:37 PM

I think VMS 15 does not yet exist, but is on the horizon. They are probably wrapping up Beta testing and preparing for an upcoming release. That's why they'll take your money now, with a copy of 14 to tide you over until VMS 15 is released. But I have no inside info on this -- that's just my interpretation of the offer.

EricLNZ wrote on 1/14/2018, 12:48 AM

Probably an accurate interpretation Tim as it's what happened before MS14 was released. MS12 owners were offered MS13 with a free MS14 when it was available.

vkmast wrote on 1/14/2018, 5:10 AM

As some of us have said that they are not seeing e.g. the relevant Net Notify in their MSP 13 or other notifications, maybe there's need for peer support along the lines of VEGAS Pro Price Watch (what my initial post here actually was). Failing that, you are able to check the current upgrade offers in the URL I mentioned (the same as in http://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/ > Support > Upgrade). All offers are on their respective product pages. Note that the previous VP and MSP 13+14 offers were extended a couple of times IIRC. As to the release of VMS 15 (P/S), one educated guess or two say (by) late February. And the product life cycle stages probably influence the "normal" upgrade prices.

EricLNZ wrote on 1/14/2018, 5:04 PM

Thanks vkmast, price watch is a good idea.

As for the relevant net notify not appearing in my (rarely opened) MS13 maybe Magix have now realised my email address has MS14 so pointless sending me the notification. A few months back I was getting net notify upgrade offers on opening MS13!

robbif2 wrote on 1/14/2018, 5:36 PM

Anyone have any educated guesses if..
- VMS 15 Platinum will co-exist with VMS 14?
- there will be an updated Suite or just use the 14 Suite?

EricLNZ wrote on 1/14/2018, 5:50 PM

I guess yes to both. VMS versions can co-exist. I currently have 12, 13 & 14.

robbif2 wrote on 1/14/2018, 6:00 PM

Yep, I have 11, 13 (hardly used), and 14, but wondered now that it's from Magix.

vkmast wrote on 1/14/2018, 6:02 PM

The offer mentions MS 15 Platinum and MS 15 Suite, so both will be upgraded. The different versions are separate installations and can coexist as EricLNZ said. This applies also to VPro 14 and VPro 15 and I see no reason to assume that Magix would change this policy with the MS product line. The Suite and the Platinum "deals" have the same Platinum. The extras change and the previous extras may or may not work in v 15. And the notifications still seem somewhat inconsistent.

Markk655 wrote on 1/15/2018, 11:06 AM

It probably doesn't mean much, but VMS 14 was first listed on amazon.com Feb 1, 2017 and the official press release came out Feb 21, 2017. So, we are coming up on the 1 year anniversary.

The current prices for 14+15 are very similar to the VMS14 upgrade prices from last year.

@robbif2 - I've seen this with other software apps as well (such as Nero, Pinnacle). It is a way to create buzz and get some advance guaranteed sales of the new software. Keep in mind, when VMS15 comes out, VMS 14 is virtually worthless sales-wise. Often if you buy the 'old' version just before the new one comes out, if you ask, they'll give you a copy of the new one. My guess is that we are less than a month from seeing version 15.

I feel OK about VMS15 itself, but if Suite 15 is new will it coexist or clobber Suite 14?

vkmast wrote on 1/15/2018, 9:35 PM

As I said the versions are separate installs and have so far coexisted, not clobbered an earlier version. But it's possible the 14 Suite extras may not work in 15.

It looks like that is the box artwork and the advertising for VMS 14 Suite -- someone has just changed "14" to "15" in most (but not all) places. Compare to info here on the legit VMS website:

http://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-movie-studio-suite/

If you scroll WAY down to the bottom of the sites.google.com page that EricLNZ found, there is a link for "Recent Site Activity", and it shows that page as being updated on Sept. 3, 2017:

"Sep 3, 2017, 7:22 AM Philip O'Rourke edited VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite"

I'm not sure of the angle, but I think someone is just fishing for VMS 15 Suite searches.

Oh dear, and I thought I'd found something!! Sorry for the red herring.

I'm on the lookout for VMS15 but I don't need the suite.

I'll wait for the trial to see if indeed it's going to be my next NLE.
