- Since I bought Vegas 15, I have had endless crashes, bugs, of every kind. I went to an AMD (from Intel) build and I noted "less". But still present. I always use Nvidia cards.
- Laptop is Intel I7 7700, 32GB ram, M.2 Samsung SSD + Samsung SSHD. G Force 1060
- Vegas 18 373 seemed to work well - for one hour. Then it began, thick and fast. Rendering crashes. In fact, crashes of EVERY kind. From just dropping an image into the time line to strange "double clicks" (which I never did)...on the time line. Every few minutes the video preview will go red. I save and close - it opens ok. Then it starts again when I alter the video time line. Continuous crashing - and it will not even give me the option to send a crash report.
- Right now Vegas is sucking %17 of the CPU continuously despite it just sitting their. The fan is whirring - this is "new". It always settles and goes quiet once I stop fiddling with the timeline and leave it idle. Now it's continuous.
- I have the latest Windows 10 updates and driver updates.
- I note that rendering crashes and freezing ALWAYS occur on downloaded you tube video. ALWAYS. I have never had a crash with my own low and high res footage while rendering.
- There appears no pattern. Except that the bigger the project - the more it crashes. But now with Build 373, it's crashing almost instantly just by adding video to the time line.
- When I updated to the fastest Samsung M.2 and SSHD I noted a week of seemingly "ok" use. Crashes went way down...and then...bizarrely...started again.
- I suspect all this "may" be the laptop. There is something wrong with it. But...it also did it on my old AMD 3700 with GE Force 1060 desktop.
- Like I said...there is NO PATTERN. Except...one week of nice use when I upgraded the storage to the fastest I could get.
- I've done everything...switched off the gpu blah blah blah...messed with plug in's...blah blah blah...messed with memory cache...this is not my first rodeo.
- I am making one last attempt to keep Vegas before I drop Vegas and move to Apple with their amazing M1. I DREAD the move. But I cant go on with this anymore - three years of editing hell.
- I have an Eluktronics AMD 4800H with GE Force 2060 on the way. If the extra power and hardware integration does not cease this crashing, then I am done with Vegas.
- I hope this is a VERY BAD series of bad luck with regards hardware.
- I will let you know what happens as to leave Vegas is like leaving an old girlfriend and all the familiarity. But 6 months of pain into crash free editing will be bliss.
- I am hopeful increased general and specific processing power will fix this. If not...there is something very, very, very wrong with Vegas.
MAJOR EDIT - I also note this crappy I7 7700 dog of a cpu is getting slower and slower with every Windows update. The I7 range from 2017-2018 were notorious for "flaws" (backdoors) and have suffered greatly with "bug fixes" - Meltdown Spectre etc. I used to get %80-%90 CPU usage and 60-80fps constant rendering HD 4000kb/s end product. I now get 40fps. THIS may have something to do with it. Maybe.
If there is something specific you can suggest, please do. I'm at my wits end.
Regards.
