My text overlay always fades out after five seconds!

omatase wrote on 6/21/2018, 10:37 PM

I know this is the simplest question ever but I'm on Vegas Pro 15 and although everything else I've needed to do to edit together my first video has been super intuitive to figure out on my own, I can't for the life of me figure out why whenever I add a new text overlay to the timeline it always starts to fade out right away and fades out completely by 5 seconds even though I don't have any fade out offsets turned on at all. I also have the text overlay box stretched to 15 seconds in the timeline, but the text is gone after 5 seconds. I can't find anything online that talks about this weird issue. I've also gone into the generated media settings and clicked the "match event length" button to make the duration match the event - and it does change the length displayed to match, but it doesn't affect how long the text is displayed there.

Any help is much appreciated.

Check in the text editor to see if you have any of the animation presets selected. If so, they trigger based on the length of the text event, which you can see specified at the top right side of that text editor window. It defaults to 5 seconds.

Can you show a screen capture?

I don't think I have any animation presets selected Animation is set to "none".

Can you show a screen capture?

Yes of course.

And now a zoomed ScreenGrab of the 5 second Text Event on your Timeline showing all the Event, please.

There are other ways of course, but see if this ancient piece of advice from one of the best (besides the three above still active) would solve your issue.

@vkmast Aw man 😲! Those VegHeads take me back. Thanks for the relinks.

Maybe a reinstall of an earlier build, see if that works and then incrementally come up to B361. I had a recent Opacity Event Level Control issue, and that cured it.

Maybe a Factory Reset?

The Factory Reset Grazie suggested.

Like this?

Or try like this? [Not like this on the right)

Ah! Please separate ALL those Events. Make sure you have space between each. Do you still get the “fades”?

Separate which events? The green bar is just a single event. Is that the event you're talking about?

The green bar looks at your text event and is probably situated at the lowest track.

A text event belongs to the upper track, because other tracks above the text will disturb or make them impossible to see.

Oh awesome, that fixed it, I just dragged the green row to the top and now it's not fading out anymore. Thanks for your help everyone!

@omatase Good you figured it out. Thanks to @jan-v for "verbalizing" my screenshots;)

Thanks to @jan-v for "verbalizing" my screenshots;)

😁😉😉😉😉

Only screenshots without verbalizing maybe is possible.
You can try it this way. 🙃

Looks good and familiar. Seems this is often double Dutch to some (as I read they sometimes say in Dublin), so good video/visual is important. But so is good audio/text.
