New graphic on Forum

Former user wrote on 11/30/2016, 8:20 AM

There is a new graphic of some sort showing up in the forums on the right side of my display right next to the vertical scroll bar. Anyone know anything about it?

Well, I went ahead and clicked on it and it appears to be page navigation: Previous page / Next Page / Top of Page / Bottom of Page. Nice method, but someone with Magix might have said something ;-)

A quick navigation system...

And it is implemented on the mobile browsing as well

The complete list of update probably tomorrow... I'll also look forward for it too :)

ok my original comment got moved here....

now i have an all but useless <1> thing appearing on home page that doesn't appear on every page and no way of getting back to main page from the bottom of long thread...

please, please THINK before adding / removing linkages

BuzzDee wrote on 12/1/2016, 9:05 AM

The "<1> thing" is a quick navigation, why would it be useless? It takes you from page to page and lets u jump to top/buttom.

So what are you missing, the breadcrumb navigation on the bottom?

May i ask you to rethink your attitude? We are working hard on this new community platform, and i can assure you that there is a lot thinking involved. Useability is hard to master, we really appreciate appropriate feedback.

/cheers

My problem (without an attitude) is much the same. I don't see the navigation arrows, esp. left and right, working similarly or even consistently across the board. E.g., I may have them on some of the threads with my smartphone whereas they are nowhere to be seen with the same threads on my laptop.

As for ushere's attitude, considering that he has been contributing to Vegas software owners' user forums (among others) frequently at least from 2004 with now close on 6K posts/comments and judging by my six years of following them, maybe he just wants things to work. I am sure that your hard work gets all the appreciation it deserves but we all can't be expected to have the patience of a saint.

If the discussion still only one page, the 'quick navigation' doesn't appear.

exactly. would be a tiny adjustment to show it on all pages.

vkmast wrote on 12/1/2016, 4:10 PM

Am I supposed to see a four-way navigation somewhere as shown in jdw's post? (FF 47.0.1)

(Re my previous comment)

BuzzDee wrote on 12/1/2016, 4:21 PM

obviously your resolution is too low for it, if theres not enough space its reduced to 2 way.

vkmast wrote on 12/1/2016, 4:36 PM

Right. My laptop is 1366*768. I connected the external monitor 1920*1080 and it does show there. Thanks.

ushere wrote on 12/1/2016, 5:23 PM

all well and good, but many of us i'm sure use laptops when not using our desktops, so my original complaint remains....

you may ask, but at my age i'm not likely to change it ;-) as for usability, well i would first TEST my new settings under as many likely situations as possible, say on a bog standard laptop with a long single page and then consider whether any new coding is working efficiently.

BTW - this post itself is an excellent example - just try it on a regular laptop....

Thats what we did, but ofcourse we cant test all devices. We tested on PC's, Tablets and Smartphones. Regarding the reduced 2-way Navigation: did you miss the new page-navigation on the buttom which gives you an easy way to jump to the other pages of a thread? its visible now even if you are on top or in the middle of a page:

The main feature of the new quick navigation is the ability to jump to top/buttom. therefore these buttons are available on all devices.

No matter which device you use and what resolution it may have, there is a quick way to jump to other pages and to the top and buttom of the current page.

That's an excellent option and thankyou for that. Another bottom line might be still that even though many of us do have tablets/smartphones, they're not very practical with editing. Judging even by forum discussions, some/many of us bog standard users, contrary to recommendations I know, still often use bog standard laptops to edit and consequently it's rather natural to use them to visit forums while we're at it. We and laptops may be a disappearing species but still be around for some time.

not seeing anything at bottom of page nor <1> at side - this is on a regulat asus laptop @ 1366x768 using chrome on windows 10 64bit ?

VEGAS_CommunityManager wrote on 12/2/2016, 6:09 AM

The navigation feature is only activated in threads which are having a paging. This might be not optimal for threads with some comments in it (cause you still have to scroll there). That is why we will try to make the feature appear more consistent in the future.

So, stay tuned as we are working constantly to improve the plattform.

I would like to see the left and right arrows at all screen resolutions if possible, even if they are smaller. I have a 1920px wide display but I usually run my browser at about 1100 to 1300px wide.

ushere wrote on 12/4/2016, 11:45 PM

surely it can't be that hard to put the return buttons BACK at the bottom of a thread? this is getting to be a real PITA....

Grazie wrote on 12/5/2016, 12:06 AM

Uh-huh, so only return to top on MORE than a one page thread.

A wee bit harsh Leso! They are trying.

However.....

Maybe: "appallingly implemented". Or rather: appalling implementation.
