New to Vegas Pro and looking for extra FX

G59 wrote on 2/25/2019, 5:08 PM

Hey guys I have VP15 and I finally have a PC powerful enough to work on some projects without having a slow PC bring my ethic down.

My question to you guys is where do you guys find good plugins or external materials? Are there and sites for plugins that are trusted and have a variety of plugins to work with?

Pretty much looking for trusted sites to find external resources for editing my clips.

Any help is appreciated. 😀

Nothing specific. The past few months I've been watching loads of tutorials as I was waiting for my PC to come in. A lot of the tutorials were asking for specific plugins or external resources. However few came with downloads or links to plugins. Was wondering if there are any sites that provide like a vault of plugins or if each plugin is sold/downloaded separately.

G59 wrote on 2/25/2019, 5:26 PM

Do you want to find illegal plugins resource??

Illegal? I only want plugins from trusted sources, I don't want to deal with anything cracked/hacked

j-v wrote on 2/25/2019, 5:34 PM

Nothing specific.

Than you need none.
All editing you can do with Vegas' own plugins and options( but you have to learn and practise how to use that all.

@G59 I'm not aware of any resource as you have described. However there are bunches of individual source available. BCC and New Blue, Twixter, ProDad and many others. However I would recommend you get Vegas Pro installed and watch a few tutorials to get you started. As you watch tutorials and find you have a need for a specific plugin, ask here if others have it, like it, trust it. Really there are too many for a complete list. Perhaps someone else has compiled something they would share. Also, as you use Vegas Pro 16, you might find out that the latest update doesn't require an added plugin, rather do what you want natively.

Some good general purpose plugins to have for Vegas:

1. Vegassaur - A collection of scripts that vastly expands what Vegas can do.

2. Happy Otter Scripts/Otter Bar - Ditto, another toolbar of scripts that greatly expand what Vegas can do. Does some of what Vegassaur does as well, so you'll have multiple methods of doing the same thing in some cases.

3. Neat Video - Every Vegas owner should have this one in their toolkits. When it comes to noise reduction, there isn't anything better out there that I've seen. It also has great GPU acceleration and a tuning app that helps you find the best settings to get the most performance out of it.

4. Mocha - Expensive, but it's the best motion tracking you can ask for.

5. Magic Bullet Looks is a good app to use for quick coloring.

6. BorisFX has a ton of useful plugins.

I've had poor experience with New Blue products. They are rarely if ever updated and crash a lot. I've never successfully used it in a production. Even when I'd get something sort of working, it was still underwhelming.

Text generation has to be Vegas' weakest point... it has the same few text reveal/hide animations it has had for years (just like transitions, same boring ones from years ago), many fonts simply do not work and others do not display correctly. I'd look into a good titling app, but again, I've had bad experience with New Blue.

Thanks guys, I don't have 16 yet as ive had 15 for quite some time but my pc was old and it didn't run very well.
I was considering getting the upgrade to 16, is it worth it? I saw the motion tracking and that looks pretty cool

You may find that out for yourself by downloading and installing the free trial. Try before you buy is usually recommended.

Loads of free VST audio plug-ins are available, some are as good or better as the ones costing hundreds of $$$.

I know there is a free version of Ignite Express that will give you some plugins for Vegas Pro as well as other programs. And there are also a few other free ones here and there but nothing major. Apart from that here is part of something I posted in a video editing group that might be of use to you.

And here are some free resources for editors that i've found over time

https://www.pixabay.com/ good place to find free royalty free images. Have premium as well.

https://www.dafont.com/ good place to get fonts

https://freesound.org/ great place to find royalty free sounds, be aware some require attribution so I usually go for the creative commons ones.

https://free3d.com/ get free 3D models to use in your projects. Something I'm only just starting to do. I'm terrible with them but I'm trying to get better. Also trying to learn how to make them.

https://www.actionvfx.com/collections/free-vfx/category some free VFX elements and presets

https://www.rocketstock.com/free-after-effects-templates/ more free VFX elements and templates, not just for after effects, I dont even use after effects.

Free programs
https://fxhome.com/express - Hitfilm Express editor and FX program

https://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ great video converter, the paid version different I think has to do with converting dvd or blue ray stuff. I don't think theres any bloatware either but just make sure to decline any extra software just in case.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/ - free screen recording software. Has a lot of bloatware, make sure to decline everything extra. You make even want to look up tutorials about it before installing it.

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/fusion/ - free version, complex vfx/compsitor/thingy. Never got good with it but you may fare better. Good for people who like to tinker and the price is right.

https://www.blender.org/ - free 3D model creating software, starting to learn it myself. Lots of tutorials on youtube.

Sadly Ignite Express appears to be no longer available. It's not shown on the fxhome website and the link takes you to Ignite Pro 4. There's no mention of free Ignite Express.

Ignite Express 2017 works if you registered it earlier (have serial number), new registrations are not possible :(

EricLNZ wrote on 8/24/2019, 7:12 PM

@vkmast Thanks, actually I already have this update after a nag screen from fxhome constantly appeared on opening VMS16

@altarvic I don't appear to have a serial number. I just had to register with my email address when I initially downloaded and installed over a year ago. As you say new registrations are not possible.

altarvic wrote on 8/25/2019, 7:34 AM

You can see your serial number on the FXHome website after logging in. If you register it on another computer, you will need not only e-mail, but also a serial number.

And Ignite Express 2017 does not work in VP17, and I think it will never work.

EricLNZ wrote on 8/25/2019, 11:52 PM

Thanks altarvic. Yes, a serial number does appear on FXHome when I log in. I suspect that as Ignite Express 2017 doesn't work in VP17 it also won't work in VMS17 when released. Makes me wonder if other TP OFX that I've nursed through several versions of VMS won't also work in VMS17 given Vegas's handling of OFX appears to have changed.

As a consumer I'm coming to the view that the TP OFX that are provided as extras are more trouble than they are worth, unless there is something that you desperately need. It's different for you pros as you can probably justify the expense of purchasing the full retail version from the producer and have the comfort that it's not tied to any particular version of VP. But reading through threads here I get the impression that may not always be the case. Vegas's change of handling OFX means producers have had to change their products and the updates may not necessarily be free so you have to pay again!

Good, almost all OFX plugins support VEGAS Pro such as BorisFX Sapphire、BorisFX Continuum. You can refer to https://www.toolfarm.com/compatibility/39

You sort of sound like a student? If you are studying film/editing etc Continuum, Sapphire, and Mocha are free, and Vegas is much cheaper. Your school/college needs to send in confirmation. I think that should be the case even if the computers you're using all run adobe products. I doubt there's any school/tertiary courses that teach VegasPro

Oh my dear gosh in heaven. What year is this?? Oh, 2019? And Vegas STILL kicks "Standards" to the curb?? Thanks, vegas, thanks for being so retro, you have ORPHANED - FOR NO REASON - the effects package I used the most to cover your short comings. I've probably gotten you 10 or more others PURCHASING your defective software, so now I have to recant my endorsement. The final time.

Vegas does nothing if not kicking itself in the foot........I'm getting really tired of their marketing M.O., which I'd hope would improve with the Magix partnership....Seems it is getting worse. Guys, for the love of Pete, don't block third party "FREEWARE" that your customers would like to utilize. BASTA,.....I've gotta open up an older version of VEGAS to USE THAT STUFF, because it absolutely does work, and works great. DON'T make others pay for VEGAS POST as a venture. LET THAT LIVE OR DIE ON ITS OWN...... not on our backs!! That is a BACKASSWARD mentality.
