Thumbs up for Sony!!!
In my opinion, it's the best NLE for this price range

I think so too. I spent six months with a new product from a competitor and it was so buggy that it just didn't work for me. No fixes now in over a year. Four new versions since I got the production suite. I love this product.

I will second or third that I have loved Vegas studio since version 6, I have PRO now but still use Studio on 2 of my workstations.

D7K I too may have the other software of which you speak and it is frustrating that they have seem to have forgotten about their users. SCS may be a little slow sometimes but they still try to fix things.

PaulP:

I'm looking forward to the next version of VMS, if I had more of a need Vegas Pro would be the one I'd choose.

But for the web VMS works well for me even with those pesky 24P files from my D7000.

D7K how do you like your D7000 I have been looking for a replacement for my D80 it still is a great camera but I would like to be able to shoot vcideo with out pulling out the big camera.

I wonder when the new version of VMS will come out and what new stuff will be in it. I went to pro at version 8 when B&H had that deal I am now on 11 I switched mainly for more tracks and better CC tools and Scripts, but like I said I still use Studio, for projects that do not require lots of tracks or to make rough cuts for small projects, much cheaper than having to buy more Pro seats. and I can load the VMS stuff into Pro on my big edit computer if I need more things done. Anyway sorry for the boring running on. Have a great rest of the week.

Paul:

I use three different cameras and here's what I've found:

I do mostly internet stuff so 720P is fine for me, however I can see the difference between 1920 and 1080 on a big screen TV.

I use a Canon Vixia with external mic and have both "lenses" for it.

I use a Olympus E-PL1 with MSC lenses (720P only)

and I use my D7000 with a Hoodman Cine Loupe setup with a Rode Video Mic Pro.

The D7000 with the 12-24 can be a run and gun is you use the wide angle and stablize in VMS, but I normally use it with a 501 head on CF 055 legs. Where the D7000 works well is on the tripod and especially in low light. I have from 12mm to 510mm and for wildlife the D7000 produces beautiful images.

I spent $1K get the mic, loupe and tripod/head to make the D7K worth while as a video camera, but for what I use it for its very, very good. If I were to shoot a longer piece the 24P is really very, very nice. As you probably know the Nikon use a "B" frame and while its rate (18 I think) may look low the use of "B" makes it as fast and a non-B frame at a much higher rate.

So if you have good Nikkor glass yes, I think the D7000 is a good deal, of couse the D800 with HDMI out is gonna be even better if you have an external recorder.

As discussed towards the end of this thread
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=12&MessageID=802394
I reported this to SCS 2/24/2012 after build 295 came out
In this build e.g. using Video Media Generator: Sony Titles & Text Shadow Enable Animate, the keyframes are still not saved after reopening the project.
and got 3/27/2012 this response
This is a known issue to be resolved in a future update of the application. Thank you for reporting this issue.
To me it seems build 322 is not that update, can anyone else reproduce this?

I would also like to know. Up to now I've tried all the updates (except the newest one), but I am still using build 220.

I've got similar response from Sony. I really don't know if they are joking or what? If you use keyframes, save the project, then open it again and keyframes disappear then it's something terribly wrong with the program.
I suppose that this issue is not resolved in the newest build. This is very problematic and not professional from Sony.
Roberto65 wrote on 4/30/2012, 4:18 PM
I confirm the bug about Sony Titles & text: the keyframe are not saved.
Set a color change with keyframing, saved the project, re-opened, the keyframes are gone...
I will contact Sony support about this right away

More of us will report it, sooner they will correct it. I am working with 3D footage and keyframes are very important for dynamically changing stereo window (yes, those keyframes are also not saved).

However, don't be very optimistic. It's known issue for a relatively long time. Use build 220 in meantime. Does anyone know the latest build without keyframes issues??
