No Audio In Captured Video

NOKNOT wrote on 12/25/2020, 8:15 PM

I am using VMS 14 Platinum. Just captured some Christmas video using a Panasonic PV-GS320 DV Camcorder. I captured the video through VMS. The sound was working through the camcorder. After adding the media to VMS workstation I noticed no sound. I opened the files in PowerDVD and no sound. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What is the audio? Media Info would help. Details on how to obtain here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Fixed it. My sound device was disabled in control panel. Thanks.

Thought I fixed it. After enabling my sound device I began to capture video once again in VMS. I captured a few frames, then stopped the capture process, played it back and I had sound. Thought I had it fixed so I proceeded to capture video. After capturing all video, I once again played a clip back in the capture section of VMS and I had sound. I then went into VMS and started adding my clips to the time line. As I added the clips the audio also was added to the time line. Then when I went to play a clip in the time line no audio. I then played the clip in Power DVD, no audio. I went back to the capture video page in VMS, played a clip and it had sound. I have no idea whats going on.

NOKNOT wrote on 12/26/2020, 1:38 PM

Downloaded the VMS 17 trial and had the same results. I have audio while viewing on the capture video page, but when I view in time line or PowerDVD, no audio.

Still need help

EricLNZ wrote on 12/26/2020, 5:37 PM

Comparing your avi file to an old one of mine the only audio difference is the sampling rate. Mine are 32.0 kHz but I doubt this matters.

Can you upload a sample problem file to a cloud sharing service such as Google Drive, and post the link. We can then download and run with our VMS to try and narrow down the problem.

EricLNZ wrote on 12/26/2020, 5:44 PM

Also with VMS open right click on Speaker Volume icon on taskbar, open Volume Mixer and check VMS is not on zero.

NOKNOT wrote on 12/27/2020, 6:09 PM

I have no idea whats wrong with it. I downloaded a trial of Corel VidoeStudio and it captured video and sound. What is the difference between the Audio format settings? In VMS it says Little/Signed and in Corel VideoStudio it says Big/Signed. Would that make a difference?

Thanks, but I dont think the problem is the file. Im seeing several posts that are complaining about not having audio. I was really thinking about purchasing VMS 17, hoping that would solve my problems, but after downloading the trial and it doing the same thing, there is definitely a problem somewhere, and my guess its the software not playing well with some Windows update or something like that. And Im sure not going to start rolling things back until I find it. If anyone has any suggestions please share them. I have tried everything I know. I even reinstalled my old version 10 and it does the same thing. So 3 versions of VMS doing the exact same thing? And like I posted, Corel Videostudio captured fine.

EricLNZ wrote on 12/28/2020, 9:12 PM

Unless you provide a file for others to try you will never know if the problem playing the file is unique to your system or a VMS issue. When trying to solve problems it is necessary to accurately discount possible causes not just think what a problem isn't caused by. But anyway over to you. Other posts you refer to about audio problems relate to different problems.

There is nothing in your file details that indicates the audio shouldn't play. I wonder if it's the ancient DV Type 1 or DV Type 2 problem. I've never used VMS to capture SD video so am not familiar with the capture options. Maybe something in the capture settings/options needs ticking or unticking?

EricLNZ wrote on 12/28/2020, 9:23 PM

My old SD camera was a Panasonic GS500 (I think as it's currently boxed away along with the manual pending a move). It looks similar to yours. It's avi audio is Little Signed as is yours. My files were not captured with VMS. I used the Motion DV Studio software that came with the camera.

What file do you need? The one that was captured by VMS or do I need to capture a file some other way and send that one?

I would settle for an app that I could capture my video from camcorder then transfer it to VMS if anyone knows of one.

NOKNOT wrote on 12/29/2020, 12:21 PM

I would really appreciate someone referring me to a software that I could download the files from my camcorder so I could transfer them to VMS. I have searched, but all I find is screen saving software. This is really getting frustrating.

@NOKNOT Have you looked at Panasonic?

@NOKNOT Have you looked at Panasonic?

Thanks. Ive been so frustrated didnt even think to try and install the software that came with it. Just cant figure out why VMS stopped working right. Been a little over a year since I used it but it was working. Ill try installing Panasonic software that came with Camcorder. Several years old. All I need is to be able to download the files to PC. Thanks again.

One advantage of the Panasonic software that I found useful was that it did an index showing every scene. You then picked the scenes to capture and each was a separate avi file. Slow but very useful.

Well that was a no go. The software was not compatible with my PC. I think the problem is I have a Dell Inspiron Model 3670. The computer I replaced had a firewire this one doesnt. I cannot find any thing on the internet that says I can or cannot install a firewire on the 3670. I contacted Dell and they couldnt understand what I was trying to explain to them. I would hate to have to purchase Corel just to download the files from that program. What software were you suggesting?

EricLNZ wrote on 12/29/2020, 6:45 PM

If you are capturing DV from a tape camera you need firewire. Unless you have an unusual camera designed to capture dv using usb or firewire. To my knowledge only the Panasonic GS500 would do that. It was unique. And for the doubters - yes it's proper dv avi that the usb captured same as if I used a firewire connection. But I suspect it would only work with the provided software. I never tried capturing with VMS or other editing programmes.

You say Corel works? How are you connecting your camera to your Dell?

NOKNOT wrote on 12/29/2020, 10:16 PM

Yes Corel works. Im using USB. The Panasonic is the PV-GS320. I cannot find any information telling me if I can install a firewire card on the Dell Inspiron 3670. If I could, I believe that would take care of it. It is hard communicating with Dell support since they out sourced their support.

I've just read through the Manual for your Panasonic PV-GS320. It appears that it also will capture DV with either Firewire IEEE 1394 or USB2. But with USB you need to use either of the supplied Quick Movie or Motion DV Studio software. Firewire transfer is very different to USB transfer so how the programmes manage it I don't know. If it also works with Corel then presumably Corel is behaving in a similar way.

Personally I'd try and get Motion DV Studio working for capture and then import the files into VMS. Motion DV Studio works with my Win 10.
