No Audio When Burning Bluray in SVMHS 11

I recently bought a copy of Sony Vegas Movie Home Studio Platinum 11 to edit video clips from my Panasonic TM900 camcorder, however I'm having problems burning Blu-rays via the 'Make Movie' wizard. The video playback seems to be fine, however there is no audio in any of the disks that I've burnt so far (about 4!). I've also tried playing back a disk in my PS3 and there is no audio output from that either, but the video is fine. This leads me to the fact that something must be going wrong in the render/burn process?

I've watched all of the training material that came with SVHMS Platinum 11 and carried out the interactive tutorials to the letter. I've been careful in setting the project properties and have even used the 'Match Media Settings', function to ensure that it renders the video to the same settings as the imported .mts files from my camcorder. I have also made sure that I have the 5.1 surround sound check box selected, as this is what my camcorder records audio in.

The weird thing is that I can render the video manually using the 'Render As' function in the File menu, and I can create a .m2ts file that has audio and video content which play back normally on the PC. I haven't tried burning this to a disk however, as I don't want to wreck another (pricey) disk.

Can anyone tell me if I am doing something stupidly wrong, or if I've failed to click on a check box somewhere?! Any help would be massively appreciated as I'm worried I've spent money on a program that won't actually do what I want it to do!

I believe the TM900 shoots in a number of video formats and in a couple of audio formats. Which did you shoot your video in?

When you set up your Vegas project, which project properties did you select -- including the audio?

Also make sure your output audio is coming out in stereo.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I have the camcorder set to 1080 50i. It outputs standard AVCHD video and audio as far as I'm aware. I don't think there is any way of changing the audio settings on the camcorder.

All of the settings in the project properties echo the above video settings. I also have the audio set to 5.1 surround sound.

I'm interested to know why I need to set the audio settings to stereo if my camcorder records 5.1 surround sound?

Who told you to set the audio to stereo if you're shooting in 5.1? You absolutely should not do this. Your project properties should match your source video.

Now, if you're outputting video to be used in a BluRay disc, you will need to use the stereo output option. DVD Architect Studio can only output stereo BluRay discs.

Erm, you stated in your last post "Also make sure your output audio is coming out in stereo.", so that's what I assumed you meant. Apologies if I misunderstood you.

I wasn't aware that DVD Architect Studio couldn't output surround sound audio Bluray disks. Is this a limitation of the 'home' version of the Sony Vagas family?? If so, it's pretty poor and I'll be looking elsewhere for video Software I think.

Any chance you can enlighten me on how to set the stereo output option when burning a Bluray disk? I'm pretty new to all of this, so any help would be appreciated.

In fact DVDAS can't use AC3 at all in Blu-ray mode.

Is this a limitation of the 'home' version of the Sony Vagas family?

Yes.

Hmm, so my only option is to use Stereo on Blurays? That's pretty poor to be honest, and it's not that clear in the marketing information.

Is there a workaround for this? i.e. can I still render full HD videos with 5.1 surround sound and burn to Bluray using a different program?

CrashEd,
see VMS11 online Help if it's any consolation:
Burning a Blu-ray Disc from the Timeline

> In Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum you have the ability to burn a Blu-Ray disc with 5.1 Surround Sound directly from the timeline. The Audio Tab of the Project Properties of your Vegas Project file must be set to Master Bus mode : 5.1 Surround in order to burn a Blu-Ray with Surround Sound.

Thanks, that sounds promising! I'm not bothered about menus on BR disc, so this hopefully will solve my problem. Will give it a try and let you know how I get on...
