No Preview & stuck with cross hairs cursor!

Nappa wrote on 6/7/2010, 10:05 AM
Hello
I'm new to Vegas Pro 8 which came packaged with a new cam, I've upgraded to 8.1 for 64bit windows 7.
Hmmm! What have I done wrong?
While looking around the work place I decided to add some extra lightning flashes to a clip by using "Contrast & brightness" FX but I couldnot get it to work huh! All the tutorials made it look easy!
But I could not get any of the FX to work. While trying out a few buttons I ended up with a cross hair cursor on the preview screen which would draw a dotted line box! Now when I previewed I had the effect I was after but with the original (No FX) in the area of the dotted line box I'd drawn.
I just could not get rid of the cross hair cursor I've checked all tabs & buttons reset defaultsbut do not know what i have done!
Except now.... I get no video in the preview window when I play the timeline!!!!
&
I still have my cross hair cursor!
Before I uninstall & reinstall can anybuddy help me out?....Please!

I did find the trimmer "Show Video Monitor" button answer before posting this question, again I may not have understood the directions correctly or it did not help!

I've just checked that again & it makes no difference if the "Show Video in the preview window" is ticked or not ticked.

Above the preview screen, click the button that's a circle that's half dark and half light. You've turned on "Split Screen Preview" which will let you view either with or without effects.

Thanks Jetdv,
I have tried all the combinations in that box. FX Bypassed as well as clip board combined with left or right or select all alas to no avail!

Click the actual button (not the drop-down arrow) to turn it OFF.

That was it.
(No Fool like this old fool!)

Many thanks, Jetdv for your time & help!

Hello All:

I am new to Vegas Pro 10, having used Movie Studio 9 for the last two years.

Earier tonight I stumbled into the "crosshair cursor" and have been going crazy trying to figure out how to turn it off. This post from June saved my sanity.

@rcflyer
But you certainly don't have the same software or hardware environment (anymore), because this article is 10 years old.
I would suggest you open your own thread and give a little more information there if you are interested in a solution.

EricLNZ wrote on 11/23/2020, 3:11 AM

@walter-i. Have you posted in the correct thread? The thread is only two years old and I cannot find a 10 year old article? Anyway switching off the split screen button should solve the problem.

@EricLNZ @walter-i. is replying to @rcflyer who resurrected a 10yo thread. Look at the date three replies back. 2010

You are correct. For some reason I thought we were in 2012!! I wish we were. Anyway the Split Screen/Cross Hair situation hasn't changed so the comments are all valid. rcflyer has also posted in a VMS forum thread so this one can go back to sleep until someone else comes across it when searching for the same perceived problem 😀

@EricLNZ you can always check the year from your avatar. Just remember to update the headwear on January 1. You'll get a head start of 11 hours over yours truly in that 😁.

@rcflyer we aren't laughing at you, we're laughing at @EricLNZ who thought this was 2012.

If the fixes mentioned in this thread didn't work for you, try opening a new thread and giving more particulars about the problem you're having.

no harm,no foul ... i did figure it out. i didn't realize that the icon was functional meaning just click on it to turn on and off split screen. i was using the drop down menu and looking for a "on or off" selection . did a search on the net trying to find a solution at first and came across this thread not realizing it was that old. i'll know better next time. It's just frustrating trying to learn new software when you've used a different one for 20+ years .

And though you did not ask

Split screen view (button) "on" / "off" (as in comments from jetdv and EricLNZ)
