not enough memory problem

KowisAnimation wrote on 9/19/2012, 12:48 PM
alright, so I have a 2 minute and 54 project that I need to render as high of quality as I can, and it seems to give me that "low on memory" message. output results read 31 gb. I don't know if that's common or not..I would really love to render this uncompressed, but am kind of stuck here. if you need any technical settings, please let me know which ones you need. [I'm an animator, not a computer expert.]

well, that basically covers the start of my little issue here. hope anyone can help.

also have 3.50 ram available, if that's a factor.

What model of camcorder are you using and what format and resolution is your video?

Did you set your Vegas project's properties to match that video source?

well, it's an animated project, so I didn't use a camcorder. all the raw animation files are mov format, and I'm rendering in high definition wmv widescreen 1920x1080...I don't know if this information is helpful [probably not], but I just don't know what to do...whatever result I render in isn't good enough for my boss, so I don't know if I should just buy some more ram, if that'll help..I don't know a lot of these technical settings [apologies], so whatever advice anyone can offer would be extremely appreciated...

What codec is your animation program using to create your MOV files?

MOVs can use any of hundreds of codecs, only a few of which will work efficiently in Vegas Movie Studio.

The more non-camcorder the codec is, the harder the program has to work, the more it holds in RAM and the more likely you'll run out of memory and/or crash.

really? I had no idea the mov raws did this...is there a less memory using alternative that looks good I could go with? [thanks so much for the help so far]

also: if I am to stick with mov raws [just to know all options], would buying additional ram fix the memory problem? it sounds obvious, but I read somewhere that with vegas movie studio, the amount of ram isn't a factor in problems like these. [like I said, I read it somewhere and I'm a paranoid guy]

thanks a lot.

Kowis,
only Movie Studio Platinum v.12 64-bit can hypothetically use all the available spare memory (RAM) installed on your computer that isn't being used by other resources.

really...and if I were to get a trial version [if available] or buy the program itself, would it still open my v10 file, or would I have to re-edit the project?

Kowis,
Saving projects from older software version in new trial version
From the link
You should save the project with a different name, using the Save As option in the File menu, to keep your current important projects intact.
I usually make a copy of the project first in case I forget this...

awesome, thanks so much for the help, both of you. very appreciated. hope this works...is there any other tips for this issue to save ram space?
