Old SONY Vegas vet is ready to upgrade, but confused

Hey all, I am writing my first post to this or any other forum. I have been editing video since the Sonic Foundry days. I currently maintain an ASUS i7 3.44Ghz Windows 8 PC, with a mid-level Nvidia graphics card. I have been using MS Platinum, ver 12, for several years now, and I might have upgraded to a newer version if I had seen anything new that was worth the trouble, other than upgrading for it's own sake. I edit family camcorder videos into watchable, keepsake heirlooms. (Hopefully, right?)

With all the nasty noise concerning 'MS 18', my question for the Forum is: has anyone seen an appreciable improvement in the MS product line in any of the versions after Platinum 12, but before '18'? If so, which version would you suggest I upgrade to, and for what reason(s)? Most importantly, is it even POSSIBLE to upgrade to a version between 13 and 17? Would I even be able to register and use it? Or maybe (not holding my breath) MAGIX might make any of the older (new for me) versions available!? If the answer is NO to both possibilities, I guess I'll just have to move to another brand. Time marches on, waits for no man, etc etc etc.

Thanks for any help you may provide, everybody, and if I do have to move on, at least it's been productive, and also a lot of fun. DFF

VMS17Platinum if you can get it. But it needs Win 10.

Some of the versions #13 -17 still seem to be available from reliable online sellers. Check if they deliver to your area. Humblebundle has had some earlier versions available very inexpensively occasionally. No guarantee of similar future offers though.

And "If you want to stay in the VEGAS universe, we want to offer you alternatively to upgrade to VEGAS Pro Edit", please see here.

The writing I'm seeing on the walls is that "Vegas Pro Edit" is the new "Vegas Movie Studio" at its sub-$200 price tag. Not all is lost but I do hope the Vegas guys can keep the product relevant until I die (1 - 50 years or so).

"Vegas Pro Edit" is the new "Vegas Movie Studio"

Vegas Pro Edit is the FULL version of VP but without extra third party effects etc. It's not a cut down version of Vegas Pro.

DonF again here. I am happy to report that I did invest in a new VEGAS PRO 19 edit upgrade, and am very satisfied with it. I built a new i7-12700 PC for the updated software, with Windows 10, but have yet to purchase a new GPU for it. As it turns out, the QSV render formats are doing very well with the built-in Intel GPU, except for a minor issue I will address in another post. Thanks for everyone's assistance, and I am glad to be able to stay with the VEGAS family of video editors, which I find so much easier to use than any other NLE.

@DonF Thanks for the update.
