Older Version Keeps Locking Up

I have Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.179.  It came with my Dell desktop, when I got it, over 10 years ago, and I didn’t even know it was there, until a couple of months ago.  I started a project back in February, involving about 100 or so short clips, that, when completed (IF I ever complete it) should run 10-12 minutes.  I was maybe 2/3 done with it, when the program began to do weird stuff.  For instance, it wouldn’t let me add a clip, or delete one, and then just freeze up.  I would get that window asking me to describe the problem (Which I did, many times), and then send it, or don’t send it.  After some thought, I uninstalled the program, then re-installed it, using the original disc that came with the computer.  It was OK for a while, but was soon doing the same thing again.  So, I uninstalled/re-installed a 2nd time, then a 3rd.  It would work fine for a while, then mess up again, and each time, I would have to start my project over, from scratch.  Today, I re-installed it for the 4th time, and this time, it locked up almost immediately.  Why is it doing this?  Has it happened to anyone else?  Am I doing something wrong?  Is there something I missed?  Is there maybe a ‘patch’ somewhere, to correct this?  This has become a very frustrating situation, and I can’t afford to upgrade, right now.  Any help would be appreciated.

Try resetting first. And (if upgrading is not an option for you) please read what you find if you search ("Find...) ntcore or "64 bit fix". Unfortunately many of the links in the threads may not work.

Thanks, friend. It seems to have worked, at least for now.
