Open MS 11 projects in MS 13

I have Movie Studio 11 and love it. I'm considering upgrading to Movie Studio 13. I've searched the internet and forums to find what differences there are between 11 and 13, but haven't been able to find any information. Is 13 worth the upgrade and money?

Also, I'm currently working on creating a video project in MS 11. Would I be able to open this file and MS 13 and finish my editing there? In other words, can MS 11 project files be opened in MS 13?

Thanks!

In general, you can go forward, but not back. So yes, version 13 will open and edit version 11 files. However, once you've saved the file in 13, you can't open it in 11 anymore. Therefore, make copies of your version 11 .vf files first, before playing around with them in 13.

One of the biggest problems is you may lose some of the third-party addon effects if you applied them in your Version 11 files and will be using the lastest build of the 64-bit Version of MS13.

Today, Friday September 5, would be a good time to pick-up a SONY Movie Studip product by taking advanatge of SONY's Deal Of The Day. All the Movie Studio line is on sale at 20 per cent discount. I am unable to find the discount applied to 'upgrade' prices, but just the full package prices.

csowers,
I hope you are talking here about the Platinum versions, because the basic MStudios incl. v13 are very limited and limiting. The users' opinions of MSP 13 are indeed conflicting, some of the threads below

Here's a very good review of MSPlatinum 13. You might also check the Release notes of MSP 12 and MSP 13 to see what's new in them.

As the good Doc says, "when using the 64-bit version of Movie Studio Platinum, third-party plug-ins will work only if they are 64-bit plug-ins. Please check with the plug-in vendor for available updates. You can share projects between 32- and 64-bit versions of Movie Studio Platinum installations, performing editing as needed in 32-bit Movie Studio Platinum and finishing the project in 64-bit Movie Studio Platinum."(from the Release notes)
And I could not find a special upgrade price in the Deal of the Day either. Would not exclude the possibility of yet another special upgrade offer in the not too distant future though.

I don't use V13 myself, but I can tell you there was a huge increase in performance when I upgraded from V10 to V12, esp. the codecs and preview screen performed better. That alone is worth the upgrade.

As for the plugins, be prepared to lose some old ones, but when you choose the platinum or suite edition, you'll get plenty of new ones at a great price. Don't forget you can always have both V11 and V13 installed on the same machine, so your old plugins will still be there after all.
