Picture in Picture missing adjustment handles?

stevefoobar2 wrote on 11/26/2021, 12:12 AM

I was hoping someone could help me with something I baffled about yet, is probably easy to fix.

When I watch tutorial videos of someone using the Picture in Picture effect for motion tracking, the video shows the person using handles around the PiP area, (e.g. around the Titles & Text) to they can freely move, size, rotate, the PiP Titles & Text area. When I use the PiP effect however, I see no handles at all. The only way I can move the PiP window is using the Video Event FX dialog box and changing values there. I want to be able to move, resize, rotate, etc. using the PiP handles directly, rather than use the controls within the dialogue box.

I hope I've explained this clearly enough. I'm using Vegas pro 19.

This works perfectly for me.

Try resetting Vegas Pro - please follow the instructions exactly - the cache must also be cleared.https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

@stevefoobar2 You have to select the PIP FX tab in the plug-in chain. The handles will then appear.

Walter, I tried reset and it didn't change anything. Jack, I was already clicking on the effect tab.

Then I went back and watched the tutorial video much more closely and noticed the issue. I was using a different version of the Picture in Picture effect. The one with handles and that the video tutorial was using is named "Picture in Picture". The one without handles that I was using inadvertently is named "Picture-in-Picture".

Why the heck would there be two versions of the same effect that are so different, functionally and especially with such a subtle name difference between them?

Thanks for your help!

@stevefoobar2
I have a German installation - I can't find two picture-in-picture effects.
Maybe someone with an English installation can check if this is the case everywhere.

Very interesting and very strange!

I only have one, even if i look under the fx button on the event

Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium is called Picture-in-Picture tho, there's no handles unless you go to Size/Position?rotation,

I know it's a different program but could it get mixed up with Vegas?

OK, now I see what's going on. I also have just one Picture in Picture for the Vegas included effects. I just noticed though that I have a Third Party (NewBlue Elements) Picture-in-Picture effect as well. This is what caused my initial confusion. OK, problem and mystery solved. As an aside, I just also noticed you can right-click and rename your effects. Very good to know to avoid confusion later.

Thanks for the help and clarification everyone.

👍 I have NewBlue Elements Overlay, that must be different to yours

stevefoobar2 wrote on 11/26/2021, 4:28 PM

That seems strange but I suppose that's possible. I can't really keep track of all the effects that get bundled with various Vegas Movie Studio and Pro versions I've had over the years. It gets rather confusing. :)

Please read here (to perhaps be more confused 🙃?).
