Possibly transform original still into picture of monitor ?

Thomas-Monks wrote on 1/3/2022, 6:33 PM

Greetings !

Here's a good one. Vegas 16 on Win 10...Tons of memory, etc.

I want to transform the original photo onto the still photo of my TV set because my lousy phone camera doesn't do the tv justice.

Mathematically, it's an easy calculation to move the 4 corners of the still to match the monitor screen, then it would recalculate the image. Unfortunately, I don't see anything like that in Vegas 16 and I'm not paying Adobe for photoshop. Please advise...

Thanks,

Tom

As a VMS user I'm not sure what Vegas has but any decent photo editor will correct it for you.

Post the still here or maybe to a cloud service where we can download it and someone will do it for you.

Thanks Howard... No the opposite... I want to take my original still, transform and place over the monitor photo to make it look like the best monitor in the world...lol

Hi Eric, they are attached here... want to put the colorbars still into the camera phone still, the same with the piano.

@Thomas-Monks vp16 has a deform fx that can do what you want but I think it's a bit awkward. You have to manipulate the horizontal and vertical shear sliders as well as the amount slider. If you upgrade to a later version of Vegas, the pip fx can do all the shear stuff for you in free-form mode by letting you drag the corner points around till you see the perspective you want... I don't think the vp16 version of the pip fx has shear adjustment or free-form mode but you can probably use it in tandem with deform to get to the same place.

ps: been a while since I've seen a Knabe

@Thomas-Monks  ... This can be done in VP16 in 3D space. Put the TV image on a lower track on the timeline and then put the 'good' image on a higher track. In the upper track's header, enable track motion and then after clicking on the track motion icon, change the 'Source Alpha' selection (far top LH corner of the track motion window, just under 'Preset') to '3D Source Alpha'. The track motion workspace will then allow you to position the image in 3D space the 'good' image over the 'not-so-good' image.

Vegas Pro has Bezier Masking. There is a free trial.

I agree with @Dexcon that 3D Source Alpha is a Vegas native solution and I thought I could knock it out in 3 notes.

However, I think the process is tedious and lost interest.

Since "I don't mind paying for Photoshop", I knocked this one out in 2 notes.

Though you haven't provided the source, I saved the recompressed file you uploaded to the forum. If you add this .PSD "across tracks" it may work for you while I go eat dinner.

Hi Folks, I found deform and yes it will take some work... I did not find 3D space in my bag of VP16 tricks.

Thanks. I'm happy to know that I wasn't crazy reaching out for help here. I thought I was missing something and if anyone could know the answer, it would be you folks. Sounds like I need to find a few $$$ and upgrade to VP19.

The term is "Corner pinning"

Just to check that you are using Track Motion in the track header, not Pan/Crop - LH arrow above.

The RH arrow shows where the dropdown menu is in Track Motion where 3D Source Alpha can be selected (the default is Source Alpha).

BTW, the above is using Vegas Pro 16.

@Thomas-Monks Hi, if you can get the piano picture to be approx in the right place, you could try adding a Bezier mask to the screen pic, you might have more control over the corner pinning of it, the curve option has bezier handles so if the screen edge is a little curved you can shape the mask to suit, then put your piano pic on the track below/behind,
