Preview Screen Is Gone...

ACCoker wrote on 9/6/2014, 3:13 PM
i have absolutely no idea how this happened. i've been editing videos 100% fine for months. no problems at all. then this morning out of nowhere, the preview screen, and the area with all the video FX, transitions, imported videos, etc, is gone. there's just a blank gray space there now. i tried restarting my computer, didnt fix it. i uninstalled movie studio, and reinstalled it, and that still didnt fix it. i've tried so many different ways to look up how to fix it, and im not exactly sure how to explain it so every time i try to look up how to fix it, all that comes up is people's problems with render fails and stuff. so i've kinda run out of options. hopefully im not the first one to have this problem and someone can help me. thanks :)

Two things to try: one simple, one ever so slightly drastic.

Simple: under the View menu click on Video Preview and anything else you may have "lost".

Less simple: when you start up Vegas, hold down the Shift & Ctrl keys. This will reset everything to the "factory default" state like when it was originally installed.

I already uninstalled then reinstalled it so i dont think that resetting it would fix it...

AC,
did you try [i]Chienworks' suggestion anyway?
Reset software to default settings
Your screenshot shows that you are using Movie Studio 13, which is something like the Simple Mode of Movie Studio Platinum 13. Looking at that Simple Mode, I don't see a chance of e.g. moving, resizing or closing the windows.
edit: corrected typo

I tried his suggestions. neither one worked. I pressed Shift + Ctrl and it did nothing. I'll try resetting it

ah ok. resetting it worked. thanks for your suggestions :)

Yeah, reinstalling it keeps pretty much all the old settings.

Resetting advice is one of the most cited FAQs on this forum and @Chienworks' comment is one of his classics, especially note "reinstalling it keeps pretty much all the old settings".

Hello I wanted to navigate this part more precise because I have encountered this issue too and to the people who might've encountered it in the future here is what I did Go to "View" then > "Window" then > "Video Preview". I use Sony Vegas 13 pro and I know this post is already solved but I wanted to help the peeps out there for a quick and easy solution.
