Pro 16 - SD projects and Importing .mov files broken?

David-Fairweather wrote on 11/4/2018, 5:44 AM

Hi there. I have just 'upgraded' to Pro 16 (from Pro 15) and installed build 307 in Windows 10. I have two issues.

1. The ability to create PAL widescreen (along with a large number of other formats) projects has disappeared. Please can I get them back as I still need to produce these on occasion?

2. The import of MOV files seems to have broken in this version. I went back to my Pro 15 install and importing .MOV files still works fine.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thank you

You could manually adjust the project properties to conform to PAL widescreen settings or simple put a PAL 16:9 video into the timeline (or Project Media) and let Vegas Pro automatically adopt to it. Then save this project settings as custom preset.

Thank you but I know I can do that, but it really is tedious and in my view crazy, when this feature was part of 15 making the change of project properties so easy, particularly when I had to change from PAL to NTSC SD to make two different versions. Maybe I'll just have to stick with Pro 15.

It's done in a minute and once saved as preset it will be available for the future use. So while you could wait for an update to maybe get that back, take your chance.

Re your issue 1. +1 for Marco.'s suggestion. Did that myself "in a minute" when this issue came up and forgot all about it.

Re your issue 2. See if you'll get any pointers to solve it from the suggestions given in this thread.

regarding issue 2, I will try some of the suggestions in the thread you attached, but as I said the .MOV files I am trying to use work perfectly in Pro 15, when I try to import the same project into Pro 16 it will not import the .MOV files and says they are unsupported. - It is a Pro 16 only issue on my machine.

FWIW I recently came across this issue (on laptop) using VP16 and a Canon 5D MK IV 4K .mov file. It was fairly painless following the on screen prompts and installing Quicktime, I think that the security related issue was if you used the Quicktime player.

I checked the same .mov file on my PC on ver 15 and 16, I guess Quicktime was already installed as the plug in displayed was now QTplug.dll, same as laptop.

In this thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/templates-removed-from-project-properties-in-vegas-pro-16--112627/#ca695619 @Former user supplied a reg file that restored the project presets. I get a network error message, just ignore and select download.

Go to this link:

Download and then run the (.reg file). Your SD presets will return the Project properties.

@Former user Thanks for remember

No problem Joelson-Forte, you did all the work.

NickHope wrote on 11/4/2018, 8:33 PM

@David-Fairweather MOV is just a container that can contain numerous different stream formats opened by a variety of Vegas decoders. How were your MOV files created and what format is in them? If you're not sure then a MediaInfo report would help, and using the guidance in that post, please tell us what decoder VP15 is using to open the files.

From Media Info this says the problem file in question is MPEG-4 (Quicktime)

VP15 is using the qt7plug.dll ...

Name: qt7plug.dll
  Folder: C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 15.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\qt7plug
  Format: QuickTime 7
  Version: Version 15.0 (Build 261)
Company: MAGIX Computer Products Intl. Co.

Thank you so much for this ... it worked brilliantly! Back to the old VP15 start up.

I tried copying the older qt7plug from VP15 to the same folder in VP16 - it makes not difference. VP 16 still does not recognise and will not open this file. VP15 still working fine.

MPEG-4 (Quicktime) only narrows it down a bit and still doesn't tell us what format the streams in the file are. Can you please post a full MediaInfo report for the file, or better still share it on a cloud service such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, mega.nz, wetransfer.com or mediafire.com. I've not heard of a case like this before.

I am sorry I didn't get back sooner as I am now having an issue with MP3 files in VP 16 not playing - or rather playing but with just a high pitched squeal. Once again no issue with VP 15. Anyway here is the MediaInfo report on the problem MOV file:-

Sorenson. Not heard that name in a long time. OK, so that will need Quicktime to read it in any version of Vegas and not one of Vegas' native encoders. It's weird that VP15 will read it and not VP16 on the same computer. Any chance you could share a sample file on a cloud service (such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, mega.nz, wetransfer.com or mediafire.com) for users here to test on their systems and to link the developers to?

I just copied the qt7plug folder from 15 to 16 and got quicktime back. Now quicktime 7 shows up in the list of renderers, and my files with mov animation streams are recognized. The modified date of qt7plug.dll from Vegas 15 is dated 11/19/2018, and the modified date of qt7plug.chm from Vegas 15 is dated 8/29/2017. The original file in Vegas 16 in the qt7plug folder seems to have something wrong with it. That dll is dated 12/12/2018. I commented that one out (appended initials).
