That's what proxies are for : )

I edited 4K drone media with a 2011-era laptop with proxy files.

but after adding many transitions it happens that it freezes for a short time

@Jonas-Steckis It could be the low quality GPU decoder, edit points can trigger the decoder to overload, and while this is happening playback can be as low as a few frames per second. TaskManager - Performance/GPU and look at Gpu decoding box to check if decoder use goes unnaturally high. This is a Vegas bug. A work-around for this is to turn off GPU decoding, if you have enough CPU to take up the slack.

Some transitions are computationally heavy and would not be expected to play in real time. Smart cache would work here(not currently a feature), Smart cache knows the approximate processing power of your CPU and GPU, and knows what can be played back in real time . It can be quite accurate, for example, If I use optical flow Standard or Enhanced, Resolve doesn't build caching, but if I used optical flow -Speed Warp, it creates smart caches in those sections of the timeline, as it knows with my GPU it can't playback without dropping frames. Vegas could use something like that

which program do you think is the best for processing such files?

@Jonas-Steckis

Vegas is an easy to use nle and allows for quick editing. It is a good nle backed by a friendly helpful forum..

Maybe trial a nle with smart caching. Load timeline with a few clips and test. Now add effects to said clips & play timeline. Does it play to your satisfaction? If yes you have your answer, else back to Vegas.

Beware resolve manual is very big but comprehensive.

@Jonas-Steckis The Gpu lag decoding bug is a Vegas thing. Vegas say they're replacing the Gpu decoder, just a matter of when, and how well it works. Forms of smart caching are in Premiere Pro and Resolve, possibly other NLE's. Most Vegas people are not happy with Resolve for general editing due to it' User Interface, Premiere easier to adapt to but it's rent-ware. Not a clear alternative when you consider the need for a fast and user friendly UI, and high performance playback/render engine that is not subscription

is there any discount when buying vegas?

is there any discount when buying vegas?

You'll find the current pricing at the product pages, e.g. towards the end of this site https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-edit/ (Click the globe button on the black bar at the top of that page to see your area's version of that url and the prices there in your currency.) Please see also here.

You can upgrade at a reduced price if you have a legitimate license/serial number of a previous VEGAS version.

There may occasionally be special offers so keep checking your email for those.
