Problem with NewBlue CartoonerPlus, Vegas 21 and new computer

Art-Munson wrote on 3/2/2024, 5:11 PM

I realize this may be off topic but thought I would ask. I have contacted NewBlue support but haven't found a resolution yet.

I recently changed to a new computer and I'm having a problem with CartoonerPlus (3.0.231017) and Vegas 21 (build 208).

I found that a preset (Animation) I used for a project created on the old computer did not carry over to the new computer and there is a gray/black overlay across the video. Some of the presets will work but others do not.

Here are some of the presets that cause a Grey/Dark Overlay: Animation, Electric Night, Hallucination, Illustrations, Light Cartoon, Paint Blobs, Pencil Test. I did not check every preset.

I  installed Stylizers 5 Ultimate thinking that might be the problem but that removed CartoonerPlus, in the project, and substituted Stylizers 5 Ultimate. I was not able to add CartoonerPlus. Once I uninstalled Stylizers 5 Ultimate, CartoonerPlus returned to the project.

System:

Windows 11 Pro

12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H  2.30 GHz 32 GB

Intel Arc A770M Graphics w/ 16GB GDDR6

All drivers up to date as of 3-1-24.

Any ideas most appreciated.

Thank you

Art, the proper category for this is "Vegas". The category you put it under is for the program "Vegas Effects" which is a separate program.

Could you please show a screenshot as to what you are seeing?

Cartoonr Plus is a part of Stylizers 5 Ultimate so it makes sense that it would disappear if you uninstall Stylizers 5 Ultimate.

Art-Munson wrote on 3/2/2024, 5:58 PM

@jetdv Sorry about that, I misunderstood. The first screenshot is the Animation preset and the second is Architecture. When I installed Stylizers 5 I did not see any of the CartoonerPlus presets. Thank you for your help.

Here's what I'm seeing:

What if you use the other preset box I pointed at in this image? I didn't see any difference using either one.

So you're using it as a track effect? What if you use it as an event effect instead?

I'm, personally, not seeing any issues with any of the presets.

What video card/driver are you using?

I looked at your image and it doesn't matter where I select the preset, still the same result. Also the same result as a track effect or clip effect.

I've asked someone else at NewBlue to also take a look at this.

On the window where you pick the preset, click on ? to the right of About. In the window that opens, turn off GPU acceleration. Does that make a difference?

@jetdv Yup, that did it! Who knew those switches were there and actually, they are under "About". I only used the switch to shut off the GPU for Stylizers. Thanks so much!

@Art-Munson glad to hear that resolved the issue for you. Naturally it will run a little slower as the GPU is no longer being used. The only other solution might be to determine if there's a video driver update and see if it works better with a different driver version. But, at least, it's working for you now.

@jetdv I just discovered another problem. While it does fix the problem with only CartoonerPlus installed, there is a bigger problem If I want to use CartoonerPlus that is bundled with Stylizers 5 Ultimate. I uninstalled the single install of CartoonerPlus, deactivated everything from the NewBlue website an installed Stylizers 5 Ultimate. The problem is that while Cartooner is displayed as one of the effects, if I try to drag to a track or a video I get the red circle with the line through it. Also, when I run Vegas I get this error: "{Svfx:com.NewBlue.STAirBrush}" not installed. Hmm... I did uninstall everything, repeated the process after a cold boot and that still did not fix it. I'm stumped again. Maybe Revo Uninstaller and try again? BTW everything is updated as of 3-1-24, no new updates.

The "ST" effects were accidentally installed with Titler Pro 1. Those are the "Starter Pack" effects. Did you have Titler Pro 1 installed - it was bundled with Vegas Pro 11 and 12.

I'm not seeing the issue with Cartoonr Plus - but I installed TotalFX360 which includes Stylizers 5 Ultimate. It won't hurt to go ahead and install the individual Cartoonr Plus but it really should not show up in the App Manager and will be activated because Stylizers is activated.

@jetdv Yes, I did have Pro Titler. I installed the version from your link but it did not solve the problem and I received this error when running Vegas. GPU doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

Also, I re-installed Stylizers 5 Ultimate and Cartooner plus as you can see in the following image.

But, I'm unable to use CartoonerPlus. When I try to drag to a track or a video I get a red circle with a line through it. So, I am back to square one. At one point I purchased CartoonerPlus indivdually and then Stylizers 5 Ultimate. Now I'm stuck with only using one and not the other.

The link I provided was for Titler Pro 1. The error message says Titler Pro 2.

Please add all this information in your NewBlue ticket.

I'm guessing the next step will be to do a "clean install".

Still have ongoing problems getting NewBlue effects to run correctly on my new NUC.

I uninstalled everything using Revo Uninstaller with the deep scan method. That got rid of everything including registry entries. I rebooted and reinstalled. Still the same problem. Argh!

I'm beginning to wonder if it's the Intel Arc A770M Graphics w/ 16GB GDDR6 and NewBlue. Everything else runs fine, including Boris.

Any further thoughts?

Unfortunately, I'm not able to duplicate what you are describing. They all add and work correctly in my versions of VEGAS. Your NewBlue ticket has been forwarded on to see if they know more things to try.

@jetdv Thank you. Do you know if it was tested with a Intel Arc A770M Graphics card?

I cannot say exactly what cards it was tested again. Typically, you don't text against certain cards but, rather, make sure it works with current drivers. In VEGAS, go to Help - Check for driver updates. What driver version does it say you're using?

I honestly haven't heard of effects having any issues being added to an event. I have heard of some issues with Transitions that was resolved in a newer version.

If you click on the FX button for events, can you select the effect there instead of dragging and dropping?

Art-Munson wrote on 3/5/2024, 2:01 PM

Graphics driver is the latest at 31.0.101.5333.

Very weird behavior. Cartooner will show up in the Plug-in Chooser but when I "add" it, it doesn't insert. It then disappears as an option in the Plug-in Chooser.

It would be helpful if NewBlue would check with an Intel Arc A770M Graphics card.

My 12 year old Dell has a 1060 GPU and I have all my NewBlue effects installed without a problem.

No, because with all NewBlue Effects installed, I could not add CartoonerPlus to get to the about page, and turn off GPU acceleration.
