Program instantly crashes when I hit "Render"...

975-Productions wrote on 2/27/2024, 2:25 PM

I've said this before on Steam (because I have VEGAS Pro 21 Edit Steam Edition), but now I'm saying it here.

I was trying to render a video, but like 2 to 5 seconds after I hit "Render", VEGAS decides to crash.

I tried rendering another video, still crashes.

I tried using another preset, still crashes.

I tried disabling video preview, still crashes.

I tried resetting all VEGAS Pro preferences to their default values, still, CRASHES.

Here's the problem details that caused the error:

Do either of the known good benchmarks in my signature work? If so it's not your install or system but something with the project.

mark-y wrote on 2/27/2024, 7:49 PM

The only time this happened on my system with a new Vegas version was caused by my outdated Graphics Driver version.

One test is to turn OFF "GPU Acceleration of Video Processing" in Preferences->Video. If that makes the problem go away, update your drivers via the Vegas Help Menu, there is guidance by searching this forum.

That didn't work...

Can't answer how to fix your issue without actually having your computer in front of me to compare with my computer. But, read this POST and answer "B" and "C" to help get things going.

I am not familiar with the Steam edition of Vegas... curious as to why you bought it on Steam?

Answer to B:
I'm using Version 21.0 (Build 208) on Windows 11 Pro 23H2.
Answer to C:
The error happens with any project I use...
My processors are Intel Core i5 (10th Gen) and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti.
I turned off GPU acceleration, which was a way to fix the error, but that didn't work.
This is my rendering preset: https://ody.sh/sPf2jIZcqe.
However, the error happens with any rendering preset I use.
Sorry, but I don't know how to add a signature in my profile. It's too hard for me to do it myself.

Also the reason why I had to get Steam Edition is because I don't have a credit or debit card.

NVENC rendering has a known bug with the 1650. Try the hotfix driver. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5525

Thanks for the reply. First, I personally don't like clicking on external links. you can add a screenshot directly in your message by clicking the Upload button.

.

To edit your Signature, click on your user name in your message it will take you to where you can edit your profile. Edit Signature.

What video files are you using? What created them? Also, you haven't given any info on where you are saving your movie to. How much storage space is there available? When Vegas crashes, is there an error window that appears?

The hotfix didn't fix the rendering error.

@975-Productions try Voukoder for Vegas for carefree rendering.

Reyfox wrote on 3/2/2024, 1:38 PM

@975-Productions how long is your project? Looking at the specs for your CPU, you do have integrated Intel graphics (Intel UHD 630), yes? Others here are more familiar with it, but have you updated your drivers for that also?

Also, in Options>Preferences>File I/O tab and Video tab, what do you hae for RAW Processor, Hardware Decoder and GPU acceleration?

Also, I see you only have 8GB of RAM. With your project open, how much system RAM is being used?

Additionally, video editing on a laptop can cause things to get a little warm, causing sometimes issues.

I said that it happens with any project, not just one.
Yes, it has integrated graphics.
No, I haven't updated them.

RAW Processor: Auto (OpenCL on Intel® UHD Graphics)
Hardware Decoder: Auto (Intel® UHD Graphics)

Actually, someone tripled my laptop's ram to 24GB, and according to Task Manager, 371.1MB of RAM is being used with the project where I first got that issue opened.

RogerS wrote on 3/4/2024, 5:56 PM

Try the Intel driver and support tool to update that driver too.

That also didn't work.
I even tried updating the Intel driver using Device Manager, but that also didn't work.

I'd file a support request then. Many people have rendered these projects without issue on many different types of hardware.

The fact that you are having trouble updating your Intel Graphics driver, which was the exact cause of my identical problem in two versions of Vegas, should get you pointed in the right direction.

I'm not sure Vegas Support can help you with a Windows driver issue, but Intel support may be able to point you to a manual uninstall procedure.

This is the latest version from Intel Driver and Support Assistant, which you should have on your machine.

Yes, that doesn't tell me much, other than it is a significant Windows System error, and not a plugin or dll causing the crash.

I think tech support is your next logical step, especially since you are stuck with a graphics driver update issue that Vegas is supposed to support.

975-Productions wrote on 3/23/2024, 6:59 PM

Someone from Steam told me to remove all the Local AppData files from VEGAS Pro 21 (except ProjectInterchange.settings and RenderAs.settings) and that finally got rid of the rendering crash!
CASE CLOSED!

So j-v's comment way back was the clue as Steam are the seller and they fixed it for you.

Thanks @975-Productions for coming back and letting us know as it could help anyone else who comes across the same problem.

Thank you for your understanding.

I've been using since v5. A surefire way for me to stop Vegas crashing on calling up the 'render as' command (which it does ALL THE TIME )is to open a blank project, add a video track, add a generated media solid colour and just render that out as whatever file type you want. Then open up the project you want to render and select the render type and then it will work. This has been the case since at least v19 and likely before then.
