Re: installation issues

randyman6612 wrote on 1/5/2018, 5:18 PM

I just recently purchased the upgrade to Vegas movie studio, and when I downloaded the programs, the installation manager kept telling me that movie studio 14 only supports a 64 bit system. I'm using windows 10 32 bit system. Did I just pay out money for a dead horse or is their some kind of workaround to this problem? DVD architect and music maker all installed without a hitch! I can't afford to upgrade my computer system, as I only receive a monthly fixed income. Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is your computer 64 bit capable?

As Cornico said, from the MAGIX VEGAS Movie Studio 14 product line System requirements: "You need a 64-bit version of one the following operating systems: Microsoft® Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10."

The last versions of Movie Studios that included the 32-bit option were SONY Movie Studios 13. The MAGIX versions are all 64-bit.

Thanks guys for providing this info! I'm in the process of upgrading to a 64 bit system. Can't say for sure if this will work, but we'll find out!!!

randyman6612 wrote on 1/6/2018, 12:04 AM

Bad news! Despite all efforts to upgrade to 64 bit, they all failed miserably. I even tried looking on the Internet for copies of windows 10 64 bit, but the prices were insanely out of my league. Valuable lesson learned, never purchase anymore Magix products! You would think some consideration would be given to those who have 32 bit systems, but I guess not! My other software, some of which are huge, runs nicely on my 32 bit system! So I'm going to try to get my money back! Thanks guys for trying to help out here😡

More money down the drain!

EricLNZ wrote on 1/6/2018, 1:49 AM

You'd be hard pressed to find the latest version of any video editing software that runs on 32 bit nowadays.

randyman6612 wrote on 1/6/2018, 12:45 PM

Well Cornico I do understand your prespective, but I did try before I purchased the software! I had multiple issues with getting the serial number into the program, and then when it (program) did run, it seemed fine. That's why I purchased it. But it wasn't until after I purchased it that I ran across the fact I needed a 64 bit system to run this program! I purchased this computer a few years back from Walmart, and the OS was already on it. So I think it's a bit unfair of you to find ME as the fault here! I do try before I buy! Nobody is perfect you know! Judge not lest ye be judged! Some people just can't afford the more elaborate things in life! 😉

EricLNZ, I agree. But their are still many programs that do run on 32 bit, albeit, the programs may be a bit outdated. I only wish I could upgrade my Vegas movie studio to version 13 just before Microsoft sold out to Magix. I have Nero on CD which I was using prior to Vegas, and it ran great!

Which version (basic/Platinum, number and build) do/did you have? Note that it was not Microsoft that sold Vegas to Magix, but Sony/SCS. And I join Cornico in wondering about miracles.

(You could try to return your purchase and get a refund, if you are not able to upgrade to 64-bit Windows OS.)

randyman6612 wrote on 1/6/2018, 2:06 PM

vkmast, Platinum 9.0 (build 92) I have now. I don't know about this "miracle" you speak of, but I was only telling you the truth. It somehow did work for me. But then the trial period ended, and I purchased the upgrade. I note that Cornico never did try it prior to him purchasing the product. This is why I usually make a point to "test drive" a potential software before I choose to buy it. Still, this was an amuzeing experience for me at least.

I will be attempting to get a refund next week. Thanks!

randyman6612 wrote on 1/6/2018, 4:40 PM

Well I said that I did get that program to work on my 32 bit system, and you claim it's "impossible"! Perhaps your calling me a liar! I can't say why it failed to work for you, but all I know is it worked for me. Maybe your some sort of computer whiz or something, but I'm not. So let's just leave it at that, okay? Take care now!

Just to humo(u)r us, could the OP go to his Magix Account and to "My Products" there to see which trial versions are listed with the Registration date. (How To in Point 3.)

randyman6612 wrote on 1/7/2018, 12:47 AM

vkmast, your a laugh riot!😅 I just wanted to say that I really meant no bad blood here, but that I didn't realize that Vegas movie studio 14 and the like were all 64 bit programs until after I had already downloaded and purchased it. My bad! I accept full responsibility for that. My OS is capable to run 64 bit windows 10, but my problem is converting it over to 64 bit without wiping my programs and stuff too. I do have a backup created already. I know this is off topic, but I just wanted to mention this. No hard feelings I hope!

vkmast wrote on 1/7/2018, 2:11 AM

So do you have VEGAS Movie Studio 14 (or 14 Platinum) Trial with a Registration date listed in "My Products" on your Magix Account?

"Well Cornico I do understand your prespective, but I did try before I purchased the software! I had multiple issues with getting the serial number into the program, and then when it (program) did run, it seemed fine."

I don't remember trial versions needing a serial number to run.

vkmast wrote on 1/7/2018, 9:59 AM

dave, you get this kind of email from Magix

Former user wrote on 1/7/2018, 10:04 AM

Okay. I guess this is a Magix change. Thanks.

randyman6612 wrote on 1/7/2018, 1:20 PM

vkmast, I have downloaded and purchased Vegas movie studio 14 platinum, and I do have the receipt referenced above from Magix. It was sent by e-mail. When I tried to install the program, it tells me I need a 64 bit system, and at the time, I was unaware of this. So now my problem is converting my system over to 64 bit (per my last message post). HTH's!😃

vkmast wrote on 1/7/2018, 2:02 PM

OK, but can you please answer my question regarding the trial (with a screenshot of the item if listed)? You said the trial worked.

EricLNZ wrote on 1/7/2018, 5:35 PM

vkmast +1

Something very strange here given the trial download file is the same as the purchased version.

randyman6612 wrote on 1/7/2018, 6:43 PM

I guess I'm a bit confused here. Why would you need to verify my sales receipt from Magix? I purchased VMS on the 5th of this month after the trial period ended. Once I was successfully able to get the program up and running, yes, the trial did work for me! This is what I've been telling you all along! So I'm wondering why you would need to verify this. Don't you believe me? I won't be offended if you don't believe me. 😌

vkmast wrote on 1/7/2018, 7:30 PM

Don't you believe me?

Let's say that I am not convinced. And I'm not asking for a sales receipt, just something similar to this regarding VMS 14 P.

EricLNZ wrote on 1/7/2018, 7:37 PM

VKMAST isn't interested in your sales receipt. Please look at the image in his post. It is a copy of an email from Magix giving a registration code in order to activate a 30 day trial period. This is a completely different code to that which you get when you purchase.

The trial MS14 is the full version. You don't even need to download it again when purchasing as you can enter the purchased activation code to activate the product permanently. This code comes in another email from Magix giving the download links for the software included in your purchase plus their necessary activation codes.

As the trial is only 64 bit I am finding it very difficult to believe you were able to run it.

Edit: Oops I'm a slow typer and find VK has responded. I wrongly assumed the Northern hemisphere was asleep!

In fact we are asleep. It's just those snow plow trucks woke me up 😎. Enjoy your weather of 30+ Celsius👍!

randyman6612 wrote on 1/8/2018, 12:31 AM

EricLNZ, I am fully aware of the differences between a trial version and a registered version, so spare me the lecture, okay? You can run a 64 bit program on a 32 bit system, but you may need to tweak the graphics card some. If your processor has at least 2 GB of RAM (temporary memory) or higher, your machine should be able to run such programs! I have 9 GB of ram on my machine. The primary difference is that the program will run slower due to lower 32 bit system, but I got along well with. I'm to the point right now, that I really don't care who believes what anymore. BTW, if vkmast is not interested in my sales receipt, then why is he asking for my e-mail showing my registration information? How will this help convince him I'm not being dishonest? Crazy!!!

EricLNZ wrote on 1/8/2018, 12:42 AM

, so spare me the lecture, okay?

It wasn't a lecture. I was merely explaining in case you weren't aware.
