Re-linking video & audio

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/9/2019, 8:57 AM

Is there a script that will re-link video & its audio for all clips on the timeline?

When I change from 25fps to 24fps I stretch the video & audio back to the same number of frames in the 24fps timeline. I use the stretch tool. In order to do this I group everything together. But when I un-group all the video & audio clips are un-linked. I normally have to link up again by selecting each vid & audio clip and use G. I would like to re-link all clips on the timeline in one go via a script if possible?

Thanks Andy

There's already such a core script in the Vegas Pro Script Menu.

Thanks Marco, which one is it?

It's called "Group Video and Audio Events".

Thanks I'll give it a try when I get home. 😁

Group Video and Audio Events: Tried curser at start - does nothing, tried at end does nothing, selected clips still does not work. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Select all Events that should be affected (no matter where the cursor is), then run the script.

It certainly can only re-group such events which video and audio belonged together in the very source file.

Not working, clips still not linked.

Do you have – by chance – grouping disabled via the timeline toolbar?

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/9/2019, 12:53 PM

OK it does not work if clips have been stretched by time streched tool

Marco. wrote on 8/9/2019, 12:56 PM

Even this works fine here. How exactly did you do the time-stretching? By mouse-dragging the event edge? That's the way I tested it.

And which Vegas version and which build of it do you use?

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/9/2019, 1:05 PM

I'm using Vegas 17 and mouse dragging all the clips by event edge (I link all the clips together via a group and extend the length all together and then un group all. I then need to link together the all individual events video & audio.)

I do same way in Vegas Pro 17.

Which kind of source media do you use?

I can do it with Vegasaur make groups but not with vegas script. I'm using 4K Sony XAVC

@Marco. Ctrl+A > G > Time Stretch (Tool) > Ctrl+U > Run the Script

Does this work for you as well?

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/9/2019, 2:05 PM

Marco, when you time stretch are you doing all clips together or just one clip?

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/9/2019, 2:07 PM

@Marco. Ctrl+A > G > Time Stretch (Tool) > Ctrl+U > Run the Script

Does this work for you as well?

I'm just trying this

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/9/2019, 2:10 PM

It leaves the last clip un-linked

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/9/2019, 2:23 PM

Looks like I will need to buy Vegasaur

vkmast wrote on 8/9/2019, 2:31 PM

Yes, I noticed that at times, but not in the last few tests. Need still to confirm what was different.

vkmast wrote on 8/9/2019, 2:47 PM

Seems that the last clip needed to be synchronized before running the script, at least here.

Many thanks for your help.

It works perfectly for me (same way as you did) if there is only one pair of track with the events in it.

It leaves the last event ungrouped if the events are spread over more than one pair of tracks.

Marco. wrote on 8/9/2019, 4:42 PM

Seems like if I use the Selection Tool instead of Ctrl.+A (to select all events before running the script) it works fine even over several pairs of tracks.

vkmast wrote on 8/9/2019, 5:18 PM

Thanks Marco. I did not use Selection Tool here and it seemed to work OK, the last event not ungrouped. Just the clicks I quoted earlier. (For the screengrab below the events were moved afterwards.)
